Go To

The eighth episode of the second season of Rocko's Modern Life.

In this two-part episode, Rocko and Heffer get stuck on a seniors' cruise with Grandpa Wolfe, and end up getting sucked into the Bermuda Triangle, where Rocko and Heffer turn into old men while the elderly cruise members become young again.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: A group of old women that Grandpa Wolfe was admiring pick up an unwilling Rocko and carry him away.
  • Accidental Pervert: While cleaning the ship's windows, Heffer accidentally peeps on an old man taking a shower.
  • Alien Abduction: In the Bermuda Triangle, Heffer gets baited by a chicken drumstick on a fishing line, where he is reeled onto a flying saucer piloted by extraterrestrials that resemble himself.
  • Alliterative Name: Hiram's ex-girlfriend's name is Winnifred Wolfe.
  • Baby Morph Episode: While Rocko and Heffer are aged into seniors and every senior on the ship is de-aged into young adulthood, the ship's captain is de-aged into a baby.
  • Big Damn Heroes: After saving Rocko from drowning, Hiram is about to be eaten by a shark, but he is saved by Winnifred, who has witnessed this unselfish act.
  • The Bermuda Triangle: This episode involves Rocko boarding a cruise ship with Heffer and his grandfather, which passes through the Bermuda Triangle. After some Deranged Animation, it turns every old person on the ship young, and every young person (or at least Rocko & Heffer since the captain was de-aged to a baby) old.
  • Crush Parade: Rocko gets crushed by the other seniors as he tries to get Hiram as the ship rocks him about.
  • Cruise Episode: This episode involves Rocko and Heffer getting stuck on a senior's cruise with Grandpa Wolfe, and the cruise ship heads into the Bermuda Triangle, where Rocko and Heffer become old men while the elderly cruise members become young again.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: One occurs when Rocko enters the Bermuda Triangle. Hiram is less than impressed.
Hiram: Cheap special effects, big deal! I want my money back!
  • Disney Death: Hiram has one after he saves Rocko from drowning, only to nearly get eaten by a shark. Heffer cries over having lost Hiram, until Rocko points out that Winnifred saved him.
  • Food Fight: One happens in the Flamingo Room during dinner time. Since it's a senior citizen cruise, all the food is pureed.
  • Fountain of Youth: While travelling through the Bermuda Triangle, the seniors are de-aged into young adults, while the ship's captain is de-aged into a baby.
  • Growing Up Sucks: At the end of this episode's first act, Rocko fumes about how bitter and misanthropic Hiram is. He then meets another elderly passenger who gives him a speech that reduces him to tears.
"You are going to be old one day, junior, if you're lucky, and then you too are gonna feel the heartbreak of a prune diet or lost memories... the pain and loneliness of losing a loved one. Maybe then you'll understand why old-timers aren't always the bright ray of sunshine you find yourself to be, eh, boy?"
  • Heads or Tails?: When they end up stuck on the cruise ship and having to substitute for two deckhands who were tossed overboard, Rocko and Heffer decide to flip a coin to see who will look after Hiram while the other one does the other jobs. Rocko chooses heads and Heffer chooses tails. The coin lands on tails, meaning Rocko has to look after Hiram.
  • In Another Man's Shoes: Rocko and Heffer are aged up to seniors thanks to the Bermuda Triangle's strange properties. He admits that he never considered their perspectives until now.
  • It's the Best Whatever, Ever!: A passenger leaving the ship says the experience was "[T]he best dang cruise I ever took!"
  • I Was Quite a Looker: There's an implication that Winnifred and Hiram were considered attractive as young adults.
  • Jerkass: The ship's captain tries to run over a bunch of ducks with the cruise ship because he likes to do it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Rocko falls overboard the boat amidst the chaos. Since Hiram had been de-aged into young adulthood, he immediately tried to save him, nevermind that he usually seems to despise Rocko. This act of heroism earns him the admiration of Winnifred, who earlier saw him as caring only about himself.
  • Motor Mouth: When Rocko is aged into a senior, a senior-turned-young-adult talks a lot as he gives Rocko his pills, which gets on Rocko's nerves.
  • Never Say "Die": After believing his grandfather has drowned, Heffer says that he is "gone", "taken by the angry sea", "going off with the angels", and finally says that he's his... "ex-grandpa".
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Rocko causes the ship to sail through the Bermuda Triangle to avoid running into a family of ducks.
  • Overnight Age-Up: While travelling through the Bermuda Triangle, Rocko and Heffer are aged into seniors.
  • Potty Emergency: Hiram has one when Rocko takes him to his bedroom. Rocko having to stop for Hiram to use the bathroom results in Rocko and Heffer getting stuck on the ship as it casts off.
  • The Reveal: When Winnifred sees Hiram, it is revealed that Hiram's middle name is "Willy".
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Hiram never seems happy and is always shown complaining or insulting Rocko, whom he calls "the beaver". However, this episode provides a reason for it; many years ago, his heart was broken by Winnifred, who saw him as caring about nobody but himself.
  • Shamed by a Mob: Heffer gets chased by an angry mob of seniors after he accidentally knocks down their walkers.
  • Shameful Shrinking: Hiram and two elderly men he argues with shrink when an elderly buffalo asks them who wants to dance with her.
  • Sudden Anatomy: Heffer gains visible moobs (with nipples) when he is aged into a senior.
  • Threatening Shark: After saving Rocko from drowning, Hiram is about to be eaten by a shark. Fortunately, Winnifred saves him.
