Go To

The wannabe heroes try to solve the biggest little problem in the city; The Turtles have to fight their bad habits, but they must also fight the mutated chef Meat Sweats.

"Origami Tsunami"

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Via the form of a giant paper ninja the foot lieutenant controlled like a puppet.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Raph considering he actually ATE the remains of the salami ninja.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Splinter is not amused by Leo suggesting early on that he and his brothers help solve the city’s rat problem.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: The first part of the episode becomes very important for the first season. Notably, the fact that the turtles are learning martial arts training from Lou Jitsu films — with Raph even posing like Lou and shouting "Hot Soup!" And when the turtles hope to be as great as Lou Jitsu, Splinter doesn't even comment. These two become more meaningful when it's revealed that the turtles got human DNA from Lou Jitsu, who happens to be Splinter, their father.
  • It's Personal: Leo originally picked the paper thief one due to it being simple, but as soon as he was outwitted by said paper-thief, he decided that they need to hunt him down.
  • Logical Weakness: The giant ninja is made of paper, which is useless against water. So Mikey uses his kusari-fundo to strike the sprinkler system.
  • Only Sane Man: Considering how severely undertrained the turtles are, Leo is right to say that he and his brothers should be going for smaller and less dangerous jobs instead of doing ones that could get them killed.
  • Rousing Speech: Leo gives one to his brothers to cheer them up.

"Donnie's Gifts"

  • Bait-and-Switch: When Raph calls Donnie, it's set to look like he's going to be honest and tell Donnie the gifts are terrible. But when he opens his mouth, he decides to be sugary sweet and thank Donnie (only reason it doesn't work is because Donnie is tied up at the moment)
  • Graceful Loser: Donnie is initially angry that his brothers repurpose his gifts, only to soon concede that they're fine as they are.
  • Inflating Body Gag: Donnie gives Mikey a suit that inflate whenever he tries to do acrobatic.
  • Pungeon Master: Leo has a habit of making puns, to the point that Donnie's "gift" is a shock collar to make him stop.
  • My New Gift Is Lame: The turtles were not enjoying there gifts, at least till they found a more, creative way of using them.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Mikey knew that the Meat Sweats was a mutant but never bothered to tell his brothers since he was too busy with his risotto.
  • Railroad Tracks of Doom: Meat Sweats was on the receiving end of this trope
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Blink and you miss but you can see the Silverfish mutants jumping out of the pot and making a break for it as Meat Sweat is distracted.
  • Shock Collar: Leo's gift appear to be this as it shocks him every time that he makes a pun of some kind. He manages to remove the collar and "gives it" to Meat Sweats, so that way Leo can enjoy making puns without getting shocked (since Meat Sweats is the one taking them).
