Touga confesses his love to Utena on the eve of their final duel to determine who will gain the power to revolutionize the world.
"And the Doors of Night Open" provides examples of:
- Absurdly Sharp Blade: In her last duel against Touga, Utena uses her powered-up sword to split in half dozens of cars going towards her and Anthy.
- Automated Automobiles: Contrary to what is seen in the rest of the arc, in this duel the cars that appear in the dueling arena arrange themselves in a circle and can drive themselves in the last part of the duel, going towards Utena.
- Cassandra Truth: After losing the duel against Utena, Touga warns her to be wary of End of The World and the Rose Bride, but she doesn't pay attention to him. It's justified because at this point Utena is aware that Touga is a Manipulative Bastard, so she chooses to trust Akio.
- Death Glare: When Utena finally discovers the truth about Anthy and Akio's incestuous relationship, Anthy gives her a dead glare that doesn't begin to convey just how much Anthy must loathe Utena, Akio, herself, everything.
- Heel–Face Turn: Touga, to an extent. He duels Utena one last time in an attempt to prevent her from falling into Akio's hands, and tells her to be wary of End of the World and the Rose Bride. However, Utena doesn't listen.
- Internal Reveal: After spending several episodes being oblivious to it, the last scene of the episode shows Utena finally discovering that Anthy is in an incestuous relationship with Akio.
- Wham Shot: Utena discovering Anthy, completely naked, standing in front of Akio and finally revealing their incestuous relationship.
