Tropes

  • Affectionate Pickpocket: When Harry arrives at Max's house, the boy gives him a big hug in order to nick the house keys from Harry's coat pocket.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Harry is able to figure out Jay is actually Asta's daughter by how they have the same facial structure and habits of eating and such.
  • Awkward Kiss: Harry has no clue how to properly kiss when he's with D'arcy in the car.
  • Brick Joke: Harry learns English through watching Law & Order. When the Hawthornes ask him about New York he simply describes the premise of the show.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with one as now Harry discovers Max and Sahar broke into his cabin to try to gain clues that prove he's an alien, the apple on a levitating platform they touched has knocked them out but they survived, and after stuffing them in camping bags he finds a woman in his cabin who opened the door with a key stating she's his wife. Harry pulls an Oh, Crap! as he realizes he made a romantic commitment to D'arcy.
  • Depopulation Bomb: Harry's dream reveals that the weapon he is looking for is one of these. It will reduce all humans to dust while leaving all other lifeforms and all non-organic materials intact.
  • Fake Period Excuse: Sahar uses this to deflect suspicion while waiting to get Harry's keys copied.
  • Fee Fi Faux Pas: Harry has to blurt out the secret about Jay being Asta's daughter in front of Asta's family, who had no idea.
  • Holding the Floor: Max tries to keep Harry in the house as long as possible in order for Sahar to search his cabin for clues.
  • Indulgent Fantasy Segue: Harry's dream has him being able to interact with the human populace as though he's one of them, nobody minds that he's an alien, the Cheers theme song is playing, he comes home to his loving wife and baby, and lastly he acquires his Doomsday device that emits a green radioactive wave that vaporizes every human being in town.
  • Internal Reveal: Thanks to Harry's Loose Lips (and not knowing it was a secret), everyone finds out Jay is Asta's daughter.
  • Key Under the Doormat: Sahar's street smarts allow her to find Harry's car keys which he stored above the sun visor.
  • The Lost Lenore: Harry reveals he used to have a wife back on his alien planet who also appears in his dream.
  • Mythology Gag: To the comic book. Harry is at a diner chatting with two men and a waitress much like in the cover of Issue #1.
  • Pet the Dog: Harry genuinely compliments Max's solar system model.
  • Running Gag: Harry's love of Law & Order returns as he tries to describe his "hometown" of New York City by paraphrasing the intro.
  • Stargazing Scene: A heartwarming moment with Harry and Asta watching the night sky.
  • That's No Moon: While looking at Max's model of the Solar System, Harry mentions that one of Mars' moons is not really a moon but a transit station.
  • Uranus Is Showing: The joke comes up naturally during Max's demonstration of his solar system installation.
  • Villain Over for Dinner: The first half of this episode. Ben invites Harry over for dinner. Harry adamantly refuses, but Ben forces him to come anyways saying it's to reconcile with Max.
  • Wham Line: As Harry gets to work disposing of the two children Max and Sahar after stuffing them in camping bags, a woman comes into Harry's cabin. Harry asks how she did so, and she replies, "I have a key. I am still your wife."

Everybody Knows Your Name

The opening of "Birds of a Feather" from "Resident Alien" shows the alien Harry Vanderspeigle's cheery dream in which he lives in a small human town as an alien with his alien wife and baby. But his fantasy is spoiled when he receives a package delivery containing the device he's been searching for, one which when activates sends a green shockwave across the planet Earth, killing all humans.
