Tropes

  • Basement-Dweller: Muscle Man implies Rigby will become this if he loses his job cause he'll be forced to move back into his mother's basement where he can quit all he wants.
  • Benevolent Boss: The only reason Rigby doesn't get fired by Benson is because Pops, who is Benson's superior, intervened and begged for Rigby to given a second chance.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Rigby starts talking crap about Benson behind the latter's back thinking he can get away with it and nearly gets fired for it. Though because Pops does step in asking Rigby gain a second chance to get back to work, Benson punishes Rigby with spending the whole day with Muscle Man as his mentor.
  • Determinator: Rigby is pummeled hard into becoming this as if he ever says "No" or refuses to do any task (no matter how unreasonable), he'll be fired. He's even forced to yell, "NEVER QUIT!" multiple times.
  • Humiliation Conga: Rigby has this as he is carried around like a baby by Muscle Man and gets a lot of dirty stuff shoved up his face, forced to repeat what Muscle Man says and always agree with him, and ultimately is also forced to carry Muscle Man on his back.
  • I Will Show You X!: Rigby tries riding on Pops' defense that he hasn't been trained properly to do his job, such as a mentorship program. Benson made sure Rigby would regret wanting that.
Benson: Ohh, so you want a mentorship program. Oh, I'll give you a mentorship program.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Even if he went too far with it, Benson still wasn't wrong to call Rigby out on his laziness.
    Pops: What's the matter, Benson?
Benson: Well, for one, he never finishes his work.
Rigby: That's not true. I always finish my work.
(Flashback Cut to Rigby slacking off via playing video games with the vacuum still running, playing on a spring rider with the trash still laying on the ground, and falling asleep with the hose still running)
  • Laser-Guided Karma: As a consequence for Rigby talking behind Benson's behind that he can slack off and get away with it that nearly gets him fired had it not been for Pops, Rigby is punished by being forced to go through a very humiliating mentorship program from Muscle Man in order to keep his job.
  • Lazy Bum: Rigby. According to Benson, he never finishes his work. As the Flashback Cut shows, he is completely right.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Muscle Man calling Rigby "Rig-baby"
  • Noodle Incident: Benson asked Muscle Man, "Do you still have that mentoring harness?" implying that another unfortunate park worker(s) has gone through the same humiliating and exhausting program as Rigby and apparently failed and dropped out cause we never know what became of that worker.
  • Oh, Crap!: Rigby has this when Benson not only heard about everything he said, but he fires him for it with Rigby trying to justify it as him kidding and tries to get back to work but Benson isn't having it.
  • Pet the Dog: Benson, even after all he’s done throughout the episode, praises Rigby for his determination to keep his job.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Rigby gives one to Muscle Man after getting humiliated one too many times.
Rigby: Muscle Man! None of this has to do with mentoring! You're not a mentor! You're just a big, fat, smelly jerk!
  • Tempting Fate: The second Rigby starts badmouthing Benson when the latter's back is turned, you can tell it's going to end horribly.
Mordecai: No, dude. We gotta stay here and get back to work.
Rigby: "No, dude! We gotta stay here and get back to work!" Listen to you, man. I'm gonna start calling you Benson Junior. (Benson overhears the remark)
Mordecai: Dude, Benson can't stand it when you leave jobs before they're even finished.
Rigby: Oh, please. What's he gonna do? (Benson appears behind him)
    Mordecai: Dude, stop.
    Rigby: Fire me?
Mordecai: (through clenched teeth) It's Benson!
Rigby: (still not taking any notice) Yeah, I know it's "Benson". That's how it works around here. I don't do my work, and he doesn't do a thing about it. It's a win-win.
    Benson: ACTUALLY, IT'S A LOSE-LOSE, 'CAUSE YOU'RE FIRED!
Rigby: Whoa, Benson! I was just messing around! Sorry about that. I'm just gonna go back to work now, okay?
Benson: No, you're not! You're actually fired. I want you out of here.
  • Useless Protagonist: Mordecai. He wants to be able to do or say something to get Rigby off of Muscle Man's grasp, but Benson threatens to give him his own mentoring if he intervenes in Rigby's punishment.
