Weekend at Benson's

In this homage to Weekend at Bernie's, Mordecai and Rigby's latest goof-up on the job knocks Benson unconscious and the duo have to make it look like he's alive (just really tired and not in the mood to talk) before he can wake up.

Weekend at Benson's provides examples of...

  • Blatant Lies: Mordecai and Rigby telling Benson that their adventure was great. Only for Benson to point out that they had a massive hangover that started from a mistake the two made in the first place.
  • The Cameo: Margaret and Eileen are briefly seen when the three guys go to the coffee shop while drunk, and they end up having to call a cab to take them back to the park.
  • Cassandra Truth: Benson tells Mordecai and Rigby to hurry up with their work, because he has an important duty afterwards. Mordecai and Rigby at first don't believe him, claiming he doesn't have much of a life outside of work. But later, Audrey tells them that he was supposed to help out with the party, and they realize that Benson was telling them the truth.
  • Delayed Reaction: When Benson wakes up, the effects of the spice-off doesn't hit him until he's in the bathroom yelling at Mordecai and Rigby.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: When the effects of the Mississippi Queen kick in, Benson, Mordecai, and Rigby have a musical hallucination sequence set to Mountain's "Mississippi Queen".
  • Disposing of a Body: When Mordecai says that he has an idea about what to do with a knocked out Benson, Rigby at first THINKS he's invoking this trope, and promises to get a shovel.
  • Drunk on Milk: The spicy eating challenge is played like a drinking contest. And when the three drink the Mississippi Queen, they go through a massive bender, which ends with them hangover at the park.
  • Epic Fail: Mordecai screws up big even by his and Rigby's normal standards. He can't even replace a light bulb properly. Nor can he even hold a ladder properly for someone changing the light bulb.
  • Face-Revealing Turn: The taxi driver that is taking the three guys back to the park has his back to them. But he quickly whips around, to reveal a MASSIVE fiery face shaped like a pepper glaring at them. Of course, this is all part of their drunken hallucination.
  • Gargle Blaster: The idea behind the Mississippi Queen. Its actual effects have a bit of a delay.
  • Idiot Houdini: Benson finally fires Mordecai and Rigby for their antics. However, when said antics resulted in Benson getting Audrey's number, he backtracks and just says "Get back to work".
  • Masochist's Meal: The Mississippi Queen, a concoction of shellfish, mayonnaise, and various spicy foods hot enough to cause vivid hallucinations.
  • Mushroom Samba: The Mississippi Queen is so spicy that it can cause whoever consumes it to hallucinate.
  • Of Corpse He's Alive: While Benson is just deeply unconscious, Mordecai and Rigby still have to drag him around pretending that he's conscious.
  • Saying Too Much: Rigby ends up letting slip that he and Mordecai knocked Benson out. This causes Mordecai to punch Rigby’s back for talking so carelessly.
  • Shout-Out: The cocktail Mississippi Queen is named after the song of the same name, by the band Mountain. The Mushroom Samba sequence is even set to the song.
  • Sound-Effect Bleep: During the "Mississippi Queen" sequence, the word "wine" in the line "She moves better on wine" is censored by a car's brakes screeching.
  • Spit Take: Benson does this at the sink when Rigby lets slip that he and Mordecai accidentally knocked him unconscious.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After all the shenanigans that Mordecai and Rigby have put the unconscious Benson through, it ends up with him getting Audrey's number.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: to Weekend at Bernie's.
