" You ever have a song stuck in your head? Yeah, me too. Over 5000, to be exact. Agent Florida downloaded his entire music library to my hard drives before kickin' the aspirin-filled bucket. Dude was really big into Barenaked Ladies. But, for me, my heart goes out to the classics: hip-hop, tejano folk fusion, and... musical theater."
—Vic
The Reds and Blues get up to their usual shenanigans... but this time, with musical theater accompaniment!
This episode has examples of:
- Actor Allusion: The opening narration above has one to how Barenaked Ladies frontman Ed Robertson voices Florida\Butch Flowers.
- Actually Pretty Funny: Amusingly enough, Church appears to actually think that Donut did a good job replicating his personality in his retelling of Blood Gulch.Grif: (to Donut) What the hell was that?!
Donut: Uh, I was telling the story of Blood Gulch?
Tucker: What kind of messed up world do you live in?!
Epsilon-Church: (sounding vaguely impressed) I don't know, I think he captured me pretty well. - Continuity Nod: Grif questions who is in running the army after the Reds apparently don't have ammo. This is just like when Chruch questioned why command would send them a tank, if no one knew how to drive it.
- Dartboard of Hate: Church has one of Tex that reads:"Stop Calling Me -XOXO Tex"
- Gainax Ending: The final number — "Plan D" — is a Gratuitous Disco Sequence, complete with dancing and lights. Church, the only one not dancing, can just stare in confusion as everyone else dances the day away.
- "I Hate" Song: "Leonard's Lament".
- Least Rhymable Word: The reason why the Reds need a nickname for the rocket launcher — nothing rhymes with 'launcher'!
- List Song: "Red Rockets" at a certain point starts listing nicknames for rocket launchers.
- Musical Episode: Of course!
- Mythology Gag: "But your girlfriend is half-aquatic!" refers to when Tucker asked if Tex was "half man, half shark".
- Only Sane Man: Church.
- Self-Deprecation: Donut claims that the reason why he decided to “spice things up” when recapping the events of the Blood Gulch Chronicles is because, in his words:Donut: The original version was so boring; all we ever did was stand around and talk!
- A Tale Told by an Idiot: The ending reveals that everything we've seen before was Donut's version of the Blood Gulch Chronicles. He added the songs to spice things up.
- That Reminds Me of a Song: The whole episode has three occasions of people suddenly breaking into song. And one into a dance number.
- Unreliable Narrator: The whole thing turns out to be Donut retelling the Blood Gulch Chronicles in Chorus, with musical numbers added in because he found the original events boring.
