- Everyone Has Standards: Played for Laughs; When Grif says that Simmons sounded like Caboose for a second, Caboose asks if that means he can be Simmons and starts pretending to be him for a moment. After Simmons has a breakdown about junior high and how he had to play in the women's league and wanting to be a mathlete, Caboose changes his mind and says he doesn't want to be Simmons anymore. You know it's bad when Caboose thinks you're lame.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: The password to the door in the beginning is shown to be "Password12, a reference to the Running Gag of The Password Is Always "Swordfish" in the series and this being the 12th season.
- Insistent Terminology: Grif wants to change his team name from gold team to orange team, because, as he so vehemently asserts:Grif: I am not gold, I am not yellow, I am FUCKING ORANGE!
- Took a Level in Badass: Subverted: despite the Reds and Blues being promoted to Captains and leading their own squads in the New Republic army, they are just as inept as ever. During the training mission, Caboose ends up going Leeroy Jenkins shooting a wall twice, Simmons has a mental breakdown over how he Cannot Talk to Women, and Grif quickly loses his cool declaring every man for himself, with their squads quickly falling apart without proper guidance and making Kimball stop the exercise early.
