Space Race

Jet, Sunspot, Sean, Sydney, and Celery join Zucchini and Moonbeam for a race in space.
  • Alliterative Title: Sydney brings up a Commander Cressida story called "Solar-System Showdown," which involves a race.
  • The Big Race: The episode centers on Celery racing against Zucchini.
  • Binocular Shot: Used when Sean is keeping an eye on Zucchini.
  • Combat Commentator: While Celery and Zucchini are racing, Sydney briefly provides sports-like commentary.
  • Continuity Nod: At the start of the episode, Floyd is shown eating jellybeans, just as he did in "Earth Camping."
  • Eye Am Watching You: Sunspot does this gesture towards Moonbeam when Celery's saucer catches up with Zucchini's saucer.
  • Foreshadowing: Zucchini and Celery promise to have another race in one month, which would eventually come true in "Asteroid Belt Space Race."
  • Forgetful Jones: Jet apparently forgot what a race was, even though he competed in one in "Kid-Kart Derby."
  • Friendly Rivalry: Celery and Zucchini always liked competing against each other for fun, and in this episode, they have a friendly race across the solar system. Zucchini isn't even mad that Celery won.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Team Propulsion gets to be "Numero Uno," in Celery's words.
  • Group Picture Ending: The episode ends with everyone having their picture taken.
  • Jaw Drop: Sean does a major jaw drop after Zucchini uses his new thrusters in the titular race.
  • Pun: After teaching the gang about gravity assists, Face 9000 says he's "happy to assist."
  • Record Needle Scratch: Jet and Sean are calmly looking at the Earth, but a record needle scratch is heard when Jet puts his 'game of faces' on.
  • Rhyming Title: 'Space' and 'Race' rhyme.
  • Spaceship Slingshot Stunt: In the second half of the race, Team Propulsion is left in the dust by Zucchini and his new engine boosters. Sydney suggests using a gravity assist - whipping around Jupiter to pick up speed and win the race. Sure enough, it works, and Team Propulsion wins.
  • Running Gag: Jet and his family think that races are like potatoes (apparently, they misheard 'race' as 'fries.')
  • The Triple: During the race, Sydney ticks off each planet, Sean keeps Uncle Zucchini in sight, and Jet decides to float on his back and eat sushi. He later decides that pointing out comets and asteroids would be more helpful.

Jet's Time Machine

After the kids miss a meteor shower, they go back in time to put things right.
  • An Aesop: "You can't change the past, you can only learn from it."
  • Arc Words: "Wow, you guys just missed the coolest meteor...again!"
  • Breather Episode: This episode is a breather in terms of educational material, since it doesn't really teach anything space-related aside from a brief lesson on meteor showers. However, it does have An Aesop and it does seem to teach trial-and-error.
  • Drama Queen: Jet wants to go back in time because the previous weekend, he ate a delicious pie and forgot to ask for seconds. Then he makes a big deal over it.
"How could I have been so foolish?"
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: The kids go back in time, but are stuck in an endless loop and keep missing the meteor shower. However, once they correct their mistakes, they break out of the loop and are able to watch the meteor shower.
  • Growling Gut: Sean's stomach rumbles at one point due to stomach pain.
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: A Running Gag in the episode involves Carrot repeatedly getting a vase stuck on his head. At one point, Sean ends up with the vase on his head, even though his head is too big to fit inside it.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Sean thinks that the time machine can't go further back in time than a few minutes. Cue Sunspot returning from Ancient Greece, wearing a toga.
  • Literal-Minded: Mindy thinks that a meteor shower is when meteors take showers.
  • Running Gag: Carrot getting his head stuck in a vase.
  • Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: Mindy describes the meteor shower with 'bam!' and 'pow!'
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Carrot needed to get a vase to put in flowers, which was somehow on a shelf outside the house. When he successfully retrieves it, it shatters, and Carrot says that he has another vase inside the house anyway. So a lot of trouble could have been avoided if Carrot just got a vase from inside the house.
  • Telepathy: Carrot's reaction to the kids knowing that he needs to get a vase to put in flowers.
Carrot: What is this, Mind-Reading Day?
  • Time Machine: Jet builds a working time machine that operates with a digital clock and Spectacular Spinning. At the end of the episode, Jet dismantles it for good.
  • Time Travel Episode: This episode has Jet build a time machine. On the same night, a meteor shower is to occur. Jet, Sean, and Sydney get distracted while helping Carrot, and they end up missing the meteor shower. The gang goes back in time to see the meteor shower, but end up in a "Groundhog Day" Loop. They learn that you can’t change the past, you can only learn from it.
