Total Eclipse of the Sunspot
Jet's new invention needs solar panels to improve its energy efficiency. Sunspot begins acting strange...or so they think.- And Knowing Is Half the Battle: A special Amy Mainzer segment is aired after this episode to reiterate what this episode taught - eclipses. It also teaches us that looking directly at the sun can hurt your eyes.
- Ate It All: Jet and Sunspot decide to watch the eclipse in Jet's saucer, but Sunspot eats all the snacks.
- Gone Horribly Right: Jet's invention, Eats and Beats, is designed to cook pancakes and play music. However, it ends up working too well; at the end of the episode, it gets pancakes everywhere, and apparently there's no way to turn it off.
- I Don't Think That's Such a Good Idea: Mindy wants to watch the eclipse while running with her pinhole box viewer. Sean doesn't think this is a good idea.
- I've Heard of That — What Is It?: Mindy claims that she knew that a eclipse was coming all along, only to immediately ask what an eclipse is.
- "Metaphor" Is My Middle Name: After Mindy praises Jet's invention, Jet claims that "Super Smart" is his middle name. He later admits that his middle name on Bortron 7 is The Unpronounceable.
- Non-Verbal Miscommunication: The conflict of the episode stems from Sean, Sydney, and Mindy misunderstanding Sunspot's hand movements as he tries to explain that an eclipse is coming.
- Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: To Total Eclipse of the Heart.
- Rimshot: Sunspot does one after Jet says that the name of his invention is Eats and Beats.
- Worst. Whatever. Ever!: Sunspot tries to demonstrate an eclipse using a ball and an orange. Mindy assumes that Sunspot is juggling. Sean calls it the worst juggling act ever.
- You Say Tomato: Sean pronounces syrup as "see-rup" (American English). Immediately afterwards, Jet pronounces it like "sur-up" (Canadian English).
Sean's Year in Space
Sean pretends that he's in the ISS and tries to live in the treehouse for a full year. The others keep bothering him.- The Aloner: Sean tries to live in the treehouse for a full year all by himself, but eventually comes down for dinner.
- Ate It All: Sunspot eats all of Sean's peanut butter sandwiches.
- Big Eater: Sean has shades of this. He tries to stay in the treehouse for a year, but the one thing that makes him come down is pot roast, his Trademark Favorite Food.
- Butt-Monkey: Sean is a bigger one that usual in this episode. His friends keep bothering him while he's in the treehouse, and ruining his plan. Sunspot even eats all of his food.
- The Cameo: Sean's dad appears in a photograph.
- Captain's Log: Sean records into a tape recorder about his doings in "space", such as checking on his ant farm and trying to grow a beard.
- Didn't See That Coming: Sean is confident that he can stay in the treehouse for a year, but he clearly did not calculate for Pot Roast Tuesday.
- Didn't Think This Through: Sean fails to live in the treehouse, but overlooks the possibility that he could become lonely or hungry while alone, which ends up happening.
- "Everybody Laughs" Ending: At the end of the episode, everyone laughs as they head to Sean's house for pot roast.
- Food as Bribe: The others manipulate Sean into coming down from the treehouse with pot roast.
- Forgot to Mind Their Head: On the deck of the treehouse, Sean is lying underneath the fence. When Mindy starts talking to him on the walkie-talkie, Sean gets startled and hits his head on the fence.
- I Heard That: Sean tells the others that they can't just pop into the treehouse, because it's supposed to be like a space shuttle. Mindy and Sydney whisper that Sean is using his imagination, and Sean remarks that he can hear them.

- Instant Costume Change: Sean changes into his space suit when he tries to live in the treehouse for a year very quickly.
- Leave Me Alone!: Sean keeps telling the others to go away because he wants to do his mission by himself.
- Mission Control: Jet, Sunspot, Sydney, and Mindy act as Sean's mission control while he's in the treehouse, communicating with him via walkie-talkies.
- Pass the Popcorn: Sunspot briefly eats popcorn while seeing how long Sean can last in the treehouse, aka until he snaps.
- Running Gag: Sunspot stealing Sean's watch.
- Time-Passage Beard: Discussed. Sean tries to study aging in space by seeing how long it'll take him to grow a beard. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't even grow a hair.
- Walkie-Talkie Gag, Over: "Mission Control Mindy, calling Astronaut Sean. [static] Over."
- Walkie-Talkie Static: While using the walkie talkies, the kids imitate the sound of radio static.
