This episode has examples of

  • Brain in a Jar: What Phong is reduced to, albeit his whole head.
  • Call-Back: In "Game Over" Megabyte decided to put Hack and Slash on point for the next battle because of their past failures. A flashback shows that when Hexadecimal broke free and attacked, the poor bots were at the head of the battle.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Megabyte kept Phong alive in case he ever had any need for him, such as his portal codes.
  • Cliffhanger: Megabyte makes his play for freedom, while Hexadecimal abducts Bob.
  • Crapsack World: The war and Megabyte taking over have reduced Mainframe to this, with every sector ravaged.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Megabyte's forces made quick work of the crippled Principal Office.
    • Slightly averted with the viral civil war. Once Hexadecimal broke free of Megabyte's 'leash', she promptly destroyed the firewall Silicon Tor. Megabyte tried to get her back under control, only for Hexadecimal to destroy a couple AB Cs as well as Hack and Slash. Megabyte then chose to leave her alone.
  • Delayed Reaction: When Bob explains that the 'big green fellow' accompanying him is Enzo;
Hack: Oh, Enzo. It is a good thing he is on our side.
    Slash: You bet.
    (Beat)
    Hack & Slash: ENZO?!
  • Despair Event Horizon: Dot says she can't face Bob because she gave up hope he would ever make it back to Mainframe.
    • The next two episodes show that the binomes have long since given up from the stress.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Just as the heroes are about to get to work liberating the Principal Office, Bob is teleported away by Hexadecimal.
  • Enemy Civil War: Hexadecimal broke free of Megabyte's control and the two entered a quick war before retreating to their respective territories.
  • Evil vs. Evil: After Hexadecimal destroyed the firewall, she and Megabyte went to war for a time.
  • Flashback: Multiple flashbacks show give glimpses as to what happened after "Game Over".
  • Gory Discretion Shot: After Phong sees him break down the door, Megabyte extends his claws, and we cut back to the present. When next we see Phong, he's a severed head in a jar.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Hack and Slash, Megabyte's bungling lackeys, have switched sides after Phong repaired them from Hexadecimal's attack. Although as Bob says, they were never that bad to begin with.
  • "Hell, Yes!" Moment: Hack and Slash upon realizing that Bob and Enzo have returned.
  • La Résistance: Dot tries to continue this with the help of Mouse, Hack, Slash and a few loyal binome soldiers despite being driven out of the Principal Office. Bob, Matrix, AndrAIa, Frisket and the Crimson Binome's crew all join the fight.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Reporting about Bob's return, Megabyte's spy comments on the Guardian looking a little different these days.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Seeing Megabyte's forces occupying the Principle Office causes Matrix to flip his lid, rush in and start a firefight. Bob has to create a portal to pull the two of them out.
  • Little "No":
    • AndrAIa upon seeing what's become of Mainframe.
    • Bob when seeing Megabyte has taken over the Principal Office.
  • Mind Rape: Megabyte does this to Phong to get the access codes he can use to open a portal to invade the Super Computer.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Bob talks Matrix down from deleting Hack and Slash, reminding him they were never that bad.
  • Mood Whiplash / Moment Killer: The touching reunion is made incredibly awkward between Dot and Bob because Mouse pulled Bob into an over the top kiss.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: By returning to Mainframe, the heroes have put the system back on the Net and thus given Megabyte the opportunity to finally leave.
  • Properly Paranoid:
    • Bob has a pretty good idea what Megabyte did with Phong.
    • When the tear is released, AndrAIa immediately gets a bad feeling.
  • Scenery Gorn: Bob and Matrix exploring the ruined Mainframe.
  • Scream Discretion Shot: Subverted. After Megabyte gives the order to reactivate the machine, it cuts to a close-up of a button being pushed seemingly for this purpose. Then it shows a close-up of Phong screaming in agony before cutting to the next scene.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: After painfully demonstrating how he will extract the portal codes, Megabyte briefly halts it.
Megabyte: Come now, Phong. Spare yourself the pain.
Phong: [dazed] I-I will fight you to the last, virus.
Megabyte: Fight all you want, you old fool. You're merely delaying the inevitable. [laughs before the machine is reactivated]
  • Super-Strength: Megabyte personally breaks down the barrier to the control room.
  • Tactical Withdrawal: Dot insists they can't abandon the Principal Office, but Phong argues that she give the evacuation order so they can live to fight another day. Phong buys them the time to pull it off.
  • This Cannot Be!: Matrix over Megabyte having taken over the Principal Office.
  • Understatement: After narrowly escaping the fallout of Matrix's Leeroy Jenkins moment, Bob suggests they not try that again.
  • We Need a Distraction: As Megabyte breaks in, Phong stays behind so that the others will have time to escape.
  • Wham Shot:
    • After emerging from the portal, the heroes see that Mainframe is in ruins.
    • The first friendly faces Bob and Matrix meet in Mainframe? None other than Hack and Slash.
  • Who Needs Their Whole Body?: Megabyte keeps Phong's head alive in a jar.
  • Wretched Hive: Megabyte doesn't care about maintaining the system, and so Mainframe is falling apart with its binome citizens living in squalor.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: A rare, heroically-grey example. As Bob and Matrix are scouting through the ruins of Mainframe, they're distracted for long enough for Hack and Slash to get the drop on them. They make a couple demands before getting into one of their little arguments. Matrix almost immediately pulls Gun on them, and Bob quickly has to step in and protect them.
