Recap / Re Boot S 1 E 4 Medusa Bug

Go To

Chaotic virus Hexadecimal unleashes the Medusa bug onto Mainframe, turning everything in its path to stone. Bob has to find a way to reverse the effects, before they become permanent!

This episode has examples of

  • The Alleged Car: Bob's car makes its "grand" debut. When she first sees it, Dot marvels that Bob actually got it working. Naturally, it shuts down before the trio are even a single street away from the Diner.
  • Aside Glance: As Hexadecimal briefly wonders if unleashing the Medusa Bug was the right move, Scuzzy does this.
  • Badass Fingersnap: How Hexadecimal undoes the Medusa Bug.
  • Batman Gambit: Hexadecimal tricks Megabyte into unleashing the Medusa Bug by working to keep it a secret from him, combining this trope with Schmuck Bait.
  • Big "NO!": Bob while breaking free of the stone.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: After an attempt to stop the spread fails, Bob looks at the audience and remarks he'd prefer a Gamecube right about now. Which becomes a Brick Joke, as one does show up in the end, just as everyone was relaxing.
  • Captain Obvious: "I sense a presence."
  • Creative Closing Credits: The Medusa's effects continuously pan over the credits until the post-credit logos appear.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Hexadecimal noticing the approaching Bob.
Hex: What's this? Bob the Guardian? Oh no! Oh no! (Bob's butt passes by the camera) Oh yes...
  • Empathy Doll Shot: A binome baby drops his Guardian doll when he cries as the Medusa Bug break through the Principal Office's shield. We see it turned to stone as well.
  • Hope Spot: Bob using the boosted Viral Erase Command. It briefly restores everything to normal, but the Medusa Bug just as quickly snaps back.
  • The Immune: As Phong predicted, Bob is immune to the Medusa Bug by virtue of being a Guardian. While it does overtake his body, he is able to break free of the stone with little effort.
  • Indy Ploy: Bob's plan to get the cure was to expose Hexadecimal to the Medusa Bug. It doesn't work, and she's about to delete him, so he makes a last-minute ploy by playing on her need for chaos. He compliments her for bringing order to Mainframe, which makes her so horrified that she undoes the Medusa Bug.
  • Mood-Swinger: While observing things, Hexadecimal actively goes from one emotion to the next, such as maudlin, gleeful, and enraged.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Hexadecimal upon realizing that she brought order to chaos.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: It's Hexadecimal talking about the chaos that Bob brings into her life that gets him to think of his Indy Ploy.
  • Not Me This Time: Enzo assume the Medusa Bug was Megabyte's doing, but Bob shot down his accusation since it's not Megabyte's style. When Phong describes the effect as random and chaotic, Dot correctly guessed it's Hexadecimal.
  • Oh, Crap!: Megabyte immediately gets this reaction when he learns the hard way that the Medusa Bug is actually a trap and that there are no known counteracting agents and cures.
  • Primp of Contempt: While Megabyte's army loads up their weapons in preparation to attack her, Hexidecimal glances at her Femme Fatalons before beating them with ease.
  • Taken for Granite: The Medusa's effects.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: As the Medusa Bug closes in on the Principal Office, everyone acknowledges how there's nothing they can do.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Hexadecimal calls to gloat to Megabyte about how she fell into her trap.
  • Victory Is Boring: As Bob points out, with Mainframe petrified, it's completely peaceful...which, as a virus that loves chaos, Hexadecimal finds abhorrent.
  • Villain Respect: Hexadecimal admits that Bob's plan to infect her with her own Medusa Bug is very clever.
