Go To

The break-in confirms what Magne suspects: He must take matter into his own hands. After tying up loose ends, the Jutuls put the teen to the test.

Tropes:

  • Big Eater: Magne eats a lot of meat at the Jutul's dinner.
  • Dictionary Opening: The episode starts with a dictionary entry about giants in Norse Mythology.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Gry's father drinks after he receives a letter from his insurance telling him that they deny paying for his lung treatment.
  • Fancy Dinner: The Jutuls invite Magne and Laurits over for dinner at their fancy villa to find out who Magne really is.
  • Formal Full Array of Cutlery: At the dinner, Saxa explains to Magne that he has to use the smallest plate for the urchin.
  • In Vino Veritas: The Jutuls intend to make Magne drunk so that he drops his guard.
  • Internal Reveal: Magne and the Jutuls, especially Ran, discover that the other is supernatural in a way.
  • Prefers Raw Meat: Sara eats a dying bird that was hit by Fjor's car.
  • Jump Scare: Magne crosses a road unmindfully and is hit by a snowplow.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": While the Jutul don't know yet precisely who Magne is, as his supernatural strength and stamina become increasingly apparent during the dinner, they start to realize that whoever he is, he spells trouble for them.
  • The Mirror Shows Your True Self: Downplayed. Drunk from the mead and after seeing Ran's true form, Magne goes to the bathroom to cool down for a moment. When he looks into the mirror, his reflection has long braided hair and a beard, and lightning is flashing in the background.
  • Mythology Gag: The dinner the Jutuls references "Thor's Adventures on his Journey to the Land of the Giants", in which Thor and Loki are invited to Utgard, the capital of Jotunheim, to take part in several challenges, including a meat eating contest and a drinking contest involving drinking horns.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: The doctors can't find a single injury when they examine Magne after his accident.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Vidar witnesses Magne being hit by the snowplow and leaves the scene, thinking that Magne is surely dead. He even happily tells Ran and their children that now he doesn't need to kill Magne himself anymore.
  • No One Should Survive That!: Everyone is baffled that Magne survived being hit by a snowplow unharmed. Magne hears the doctors say that they have never seen something like this before.
  • Oh, Crap!: Saxa's reaction when she sees Magne in class the next day, without a mark on him.
  • Practice Target Overkill: After drinking from the mead, Magne throws an axe so hard that he destroys the target.
  • Super-Speed: Magne realizes that he can run extraordinarily fast when the police officer remarks that he shouldn't have been able to climb down the mountain that quickly before Isolde died. Magne then times himself running 100 meters: He only needs 7 seconds, faster than the world record by 2.5 seconds.
  • Surprise Car Crash: Magne is hit by a snowplow when he crosses a street.
  • Three-Point Landing: Magne lands like that when he gets drunk from the Jutuls' mead and jumps from a table.
  • Title Drop: When Magne and Laurits arrive at the Jutul's house, Sara greets them with "Welcome to Jutulheim".
  • Virgin-Shaming: Downplayed. Gry denies that she is a virgin but the other kids don't believe her and are baffled.
