Digby rejoins Ned at
Boarding School, seemingly aware that he cannot touch his beloved master. Still, the companionship cheers Ned immensely.
The Present
Two fliers crash-land near the Pie Hole almost simultaneously: a carrier pigeon flies into the Pie Hole's window, and a small plane flies into the apartment building opposite. The carrier pigeon is accidentally revived by Ned, but the apartment's occupant needs no such help; and, in fact, instantly finds himself in Ned's bad books by hitting on Chuck.
Tropes
- Alone with the Psycho: Chuck is unaware that the "Conrad" she's brought to the Pie Hole is a fraud. Later in the episode Lem shows up at Elsita's windmill with and axe and ties her. Both times it's downplayed as neither Chuck nor Elsita are afraid of him, in fact Elsita spends the whole scene critiquing his knot-tying skills and getting annoyed when he doesn't listen to her.
- An Arm and a Leg: "Lefty" Lem lost his right arm after getting it stuck in a paper shredder. Elsita is missing her right leg due to unknown circumstances.
- Falling into His Arms: Played with. It isn't Ned's arms Chuck falls into—in fact, he must deliberately let her fall—a source of angst to him for the rest of the episode. Chuck recognizes why he didn't catch her and tells "Conrad" that it's a sweet gesture with "the proper context".
- Identical Grandson: Elsita Von Roenn and her grandmother Elsa, both played by Jayma Mays.
- Instant Messenger Pigeon: Downplayed due to Pidge's injured wing.
- Unseen Pen Pal: A particularly convoluted example — in "Pigeon", the plane hijacker Lefty Lem was cellmates with an older man called Jackson Lucas, who went to jail for stealing jewels that were never recovered. Before his death, Jackson told Lefty where he hid the jewels — in a windmill. He also asked Lefty to keep writing letters via Instant Messenger Pigeon to his love, Elsa, who lived in said windmill. It turns out, however, that Elsa had also died, and her daughter Elsita had been writing the letters instead. Elsita and Lefty fell in love with each other through the letters and, upon discovering each others' identities at the windmill (despite the fact that Lefty tied Elsita up in order to find the jewels), Elsita promised to keep sending Lefty letters once he returned to jail.
