Recap / Prehistoric Park Returned From Extinction Episode 21 New Blood

Go To

Nigel and the Team travel back to prehistoric Arizona to rescue some of the earliest dinosaurs.

  • Adaptation Expansion: The chapter includes quite literally every animal species known from the Chinle Formation and a few others that could reasonably have shown up in the setting, allowing for more animals to be seen and rescued.
  • Canon Foreigner: Many different animals from the Chinle Formation show up here, including some that never appeared in Walking with Dinosaurs. Examples include a second variety of rauisuchian (Vivaron), more dinosaurs (Tawa), dinosauriforms (Eucoelophysis), and another variety of pterosaur (Caelestiventus).
  • Compressed Adaptation: This chapter compresses the events of the latter half of "New Blood" from Walking with Dinosaurs to take place over the course of one day, instead of several months.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The Walking with Dinosaurs companion book (A Natural History) included an unspecified temnospondyl and phytosaur. Here, the temnospondyl is confirmed to be Koskinodon (the only one known from this time and place), while many, many phytosaur species show up here (Smilosuchus, Redondasaurus, and Leptosuchus being three).
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: When the forest fire at the end of the episode happens, everything in the area starts running.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: The female Postosuchus and the cynodont babies all make it back to the present.
  • Wham Episode: While it had been hinted before hand, this episode confirms that the series is a crossover of some sort with Primeval when an anomaly opens up at the end of the episode.
