In the days that follow the mission to rescue Tyrannosaurus rex, Adrian undergoes his rounds at the park before eventually winding down with his small combined flock of avian 'pets'.

- Brutal Bird of Prey: Averted. One of the La Brea Tar Pits area birds of prey briefly glares warily Adrian's way just to see if Adrian is planning to try to steal a portion of the carcass he's just fed to them all, but is happy to turn his attention away from Adrian and focus on eating once it becomes clear that Adrian isn't a thief.
- Elemental Motifs: Adrian is associated with the element of air. His apartment has a wide-ranging overlook of the park and has white, bronze and blue wallpaper, resembling the sky.
- Interspecies Friendship: Signs of this are shown in this chapter between Adrian and Cirrus the quetzalcoatlus. Adrian has also bonded with several of the modern day birds in his collection.
- Parental Substitute: Adrian is revealed to be serving as this for an orphaned La Brea caracara chick that Alice had found and sent through the portal over the course of Oozing From the Pit.
- The Rival: As much as Cirrus has been accepted as a member of the flock, another male his age named Zephyr seems to view him as this to the point that he bullies Cirrus out of portions of the meat given to the larger flock, necessitating for Cirrus to eat separately from the rest.
- Scavengers Are Scum: Averted. The narrative makes clear that vultures are actually very smart birds and that scavenging takes a lot more mental exercise and difficulty than most would believe.
- Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: Averted. Most of the birds Adrian works with (plus some of the pterosaurs) have yellow eyes. But they are not portrayed as too much more unnerving than any other animal.
