Recap / Prehistoric Park Extras E 13 I Tawt I Taw A Dimetwodon

Go To

Spiny the juvenile Dimetrodon attempts to eat Larry the Petrolacosaurus.

Hilarity Ensues.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In Prehistoric Earth, Spiny largely tolerated Lubbock the petrolacosaurus more than anything else. In this continuity, however, he'll go to any length to attempt to eat Lubbock's counterpart Larry.
  • Amusing Injuries: Spiny undergoes a lot of those over the course of his attempts to eat Larry.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Spiny corners Larry... only for a Torvosaurus to show up and try to eat him. He barely gets away.
  • Amphibian Assault: After accidentally landing on Newter over the course of a failed attempt at lunging over the scapherpeton paddock while chasing after Larry, Spiny is beaten up by the understandably unamused scapherpeton.
  • Butt-Monkey: Where to begin with Spiny? Over the course of the story, he gets stuck halfway in a gap in a fence, nearly gets eaten by a Torvosaurus, fails to jump a short distance and lands on Newter (who beats him up) and finally fails to recognize his own reflection and ends up jumping face-first into the Hell Creek crocodile viewing window.
  • Escaped Animal Rampage: A downplayed example that's entirely Played for Laughs, as Spiny doesn't really do much after escaping aside from taking part in a hilariously doomed to fail hunt against the similarly escaped Larry the petrolacosaurus.
  • Humiliation Conga: See Butt-Monkey above for how Spiny undergoes one of these over the course of his attempts at hunting and eating Larry.
  • Homage: The story is one long homage to Looney Tunes shorts, especially Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird and Wile E Coyote And The Roadrunner.
  • Lovable Lizard:
    • While not truly a lizard, Larry serves this role.
    • Spiny, despite not being technically a lizard, shows many varanid-like behaviors - and his Butt-Monkey portrayal in this chapter makes him rather endearing.
  • Malicious Monitor Lizard: While not truly malicious, or even a monitor lizard, Spiny does display some vaguely monitor lizard-like behaviors and spends just about the entire episode chasing after Larry with the intent to kill and eat him.
  • Road Runner vs. Coyote: Spiny spends the whole chapter attempting to eat Larry... and humiliatingly failing.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: Spiny will stop at nothing to eat Larry, no matter how much indignity he suffers.
