Tropes

  • An Aesop: Be a positive sport. More specifically, don’t downplay others' accomplishments as dumb luck or write it off just to appease your own hurt ego. Not giving credit where it's due can be just as hurtful or insulting to the other person than saying they did a plain bad job. Shawn finds this out the hard way when he doesn’t have the decency to give Tanya that courtesy.
  • Angrish: Bulk and Skull's argument is more difficult to make out than normal when the latter mocks the big guy's inadequate swinging. Baseball must bring out the worst in them.
  • Berserk Button: Tanya doesn’t take too kindly to Shawn not giving her her dues. This results in another, this time permanent, breakup.
  • The Cast Showoff: Nakia Burrise actually played baseball prior to her time on Power Rangers.
  • Moment Killer: Tanya brings home the bacon and everything seems to feel good until Shawn tells her she almost blew it, quickly angering her.
  • Noisy Shut-Up: Rocky delivers one when Bulk and Skull bicker, hurting his throat in the process.
  • Not Now, Kiddo: Prince Sprocket and Klank do this to Orbus, as they're busy bickering, while Orbus is the only one paying attention to their scheme.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Even most non-sports fans have at least heard of Babe Ruth, Tanya.
  • Pride: As much as he tries to hide it, Shawn clearly takes issue with his girlfriend making him look bad on the field. Not helping matters are his friends' jabs which do affect him despite his smiles. At the end of the day, he goes so far as to blame Tanya for almost costing their team the game just out of wounded pride. Tanya puts him in his place by telling him off for his negativity and permanently breaks it off with him, after which he shamelessly walks away.
  • Red Baron: Shawn goes by the “Sultan of Swat” as the star player of the baseball team.
  • Rotating Protagonist: Variation; while Tanya and her civilian plot about baseball make up the bookends of the episode, the Ohranger footage clearly shows that this was a Blue Ranger focus originally, not yellow. Rocky getting captured and his Zeonizer stolen, plus the use of his Battle Helmet in the zord battle, clearly show this fact.
  • Ship Tease: Adam and Tanya as he defends her from Shawn when he criticized her and comforts her after she broke up with him.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Shawn takes a turn for the worse upon reacting poorly to Tanya's victory, causing her to break up with him.
