Go To

When Tommy receives a devastating letter from Kimberly, Kat tries to help him feel better by taking him on a ski trip. At the same time, the Machine Empire becomes inspired by Tommy's heartbreak to dispatch Robocupid, a monster that makes people fall in love with machines.

Tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Robo Cupid briefly becomes one for Klank after accidentally blasting herself with her own ray. Orbus finds it hilarious, but Klank clearly doesn't.
  • Acting for Two: Alex Borstein provides Robo Cupid's voice alongside her usual role of Queen Machina.
  • Cheer Up Episode: Billy and Katherine take Tommy up to the mountains for a ski lodge getaway to help him get over Kimberly. Tommy appears to be having fun at least until Mondo decides to ruin it with a trap.
  • Continuity Nod: Kimberly writes from Florida and mentions that she's still training with coach Schmidt for the Pan Global Games. Not that that matters in the grand scheme of things.
  • Creator Cameo: Doug Sloan, the showrunner of since Season Three of Mighty Morphin', appears as a reporter unsuccessfully trying to interview Cogs as they use the gondola to head up the mountain.
  • Cupid's Arrow: The monster's name is Robo Cupid. Do we need to say more?
  • "Dear John" Letter: In what's probably the most (in)famous example of '90s television, and in turn one of the most infamous moments in PR history, Kimberly sends one to Tommy and states that she's met someone else while in Florida. The fanbase was PISSED.
  • Exact Words: The opening credits indicate that Amy Jo Johnson will be appearing as Kimberly. She only appears through Stock Footage.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: The music turns moody suddenly when Kim's letter makes its appearance in Ernie's hands before its sender is revealed.
  • Good-Times Montage: Tommy has a flashback to all the good times he spent with Kim during Mighty Morphin', as well as their first kiss after he lost the Green Ranger powers. Goddammit, Power Rangers!
  • I Don't Like the Sound of That Place: The Widowmaker i.e. the biggest and most treacherous mountain of where half the ranger team goes to. Even Tommy is wary about tackling it.
  • Literal Cliffhanger: Part I ends with Heather going over the cliffside and Tommy, Katherine, and Billy, looking on in horror.
  • Men Don't Cry: While Tommy is very much saddened by the breakup during his montage on the beach, no tears are shown.
  • No Stunt Double: Jason David Frank did his own snowboarding only because the stunt-double did it worse than him in test footage.
  • Padding: A number of scenes in Part I seem to exist solely to show off the rangers and Heather snowboarding down the mountains.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Despite having never heard of Kimberly prior to this episode, Tanya seems as excited to hear from her as the rest of the team and subsequently upset that when she hears about Kim breaking things off.
  • She's a Man in Japan: Robo Cupid's counterpart was male.
  • Trapped the Wrong Target: Heather goes over the cliff when it was intended for the rangers and Billy to plummet to their deaths.
  • The Unreveal: It's never mentioned who the "someone else" was in the letter.note
  • You Look Familiar: Heather's actress, Sarah Joy Brown, was best known as Kaitlin Starr of VR Troopers, which had been canceled three months prior, and they invited her to guest star in the three-parter.
