Tropes

  • Both Sides Have a Point: While Wes is right that his father only sees the Silver Guardians as another way to make money, Lucas and Trip point out the group will still be protecting innocent people and could make the Rangers' jobs easier.
  • Broken Pedestal: Wes bemoans how he used to look up to his father and want to be just like him. Now, he just sees him as a greedy jerk.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Wes calls out his father for risking others for money, and being in control of his own future all his life Pre-Ranger duty after his identity is revealed.
  • Disappointed in You: Mr. Collins, when he discovers Wes is picking up trash. Even says this to him.
  • Flashback: Wes and later Eric both reflect on their time in prep school together, including their karate training and Eric being snubbed for being of a lower class.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: Frax, once again releases a mutant from the X-Vault without Ransik's approval and when the latter and Nadira suspect Frax of treachery. He lies to them by reminding that robots are incapable of thinking by themselves.
  • Foreshadowing: Frax tells Ransik and Nadira that robots are unable to think by themselves, yet he is able of doing so, which hints of him not being only a robot.
  • Grass is Greener: While reflecting on their time in prep school together, Eric feels Wes squandered all sorts of breaks (such as money and connections) that he would've gladly used to build a better life for himself. By the present, Wes found such an entitled life unfulfilling and preferred something more akin to what Eric has.
  • Internal Reveal: Mr. Collins finally discovers that his son is the Red Ranger.
  • Ignored Expert: While morphed, Wes warns the Silver Guardians that Univolt is too powerful for them to fight. He is ignored, and it goes like you'd expect.
  • Little "No": Katie after Wes takes a nasty blast from Univolt.
  • Only in It for the Money: Wes has issues with the Silver Guardians because Mr. Collins is just looking to make more money.
  • Police Are Useless: Averted for the first time in Power Rangers history. Technically the Silver Guardians are private security, not police, but the same basic principle applies: for the first time, a protective unit without morphing powers is shown to be effective at fighting off the villains!
  • Secret-Keeper: After the fight with Univolt, Mr. Collins and the Silver Guardians, including Eric, keep Wes and the other Rangers' identities secret from the public.
  • Shot-for-Shot Remake: The scene where Wes' visor broke, thus exposing his identity to Eric and his dad originated from an episode of Time Ranger.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Despite being a monster of the week, Univolt's actions caused Mr. Collins to find out Wes's identity as the Red Ranger, moving the conflict of father and son forward.
  • Taking the Bullet: Wes shields Commander Porter from Univolt's blast, which breaks his visor and exposes his identity to Eric and Mr. Collins.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The promo for the episode in the previous one reveals Wes' identity being revealed to his father.
  • The Unmasking: Wes, to his dad.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Wes and Eric used to go to prep school together. Wes kept trying to reach out to him, but with the other students so unwelcoming, Eric ultimately quit and went his own way.
