Tropes

  • Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better: Subverted. Hunter is the first to volunteer to try the Brick Break. He seems to be leading up to this by saying Sensei did it, only to sheepishly cop to how all he could do is give it a try.
  • Big "NO!": Sensei when Cam goes for the Scroll of Time.
  • Brick Break: The Rangers try this. They all fail, and when Cam, the non-Ranger, does it and succeeds they think it's a trick.
  • Brought Down to Normal: The Rangers powers are stolen by Madtropolis, though they manage to steal the container they're kept in.
  • Brutal Honesty: When Sensei says the promise he made is more complicated than it would appear, Blake says it sounds like he doesn't trust his own son.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Cam in response to the others doubting his Brick Break.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Dustin is the first one to say it's unfair of Sensei to hold Cam to a promise he (Sensei) made years ago.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Sensei makes reference to a portal's hazards, Cam realizes he means the Scroll of Time.
  • Foreshadowing: Sensei says things are more complicated about Cam's status than the Rangers before looking at an old family photo. Later, Cam suspects he knows more about the great power from the past than he's letting on.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Cam lampshades how time travel is a very desperate play to get out of this situation.
  • Hope Spot: After Madtropolis grows, Shane decides to slice open the sphere container, but his sword doesn't even scratch it.
  • In the Blood: Sensei effortlessly performed the Brick Break and, after the others wash out, Dustin attributes it to the guy being a ninja master. The ninja master's son immediately does it himself, to the others' surprise. Later, Sensei observes that Cam has his mother's heart and his father's stubbornness.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Upon laying eyes on Madtropolis.
Dustin: I've heard of cities comin' alive, but this is ridiculous.
    Madtropolis: Ha-ha. Everyone's a comedian.
  • Noodle Incident: Lothor says he once witnessed a plague on an alien planet that turned people into black ooze.
  • Pet the Dog: Tori comforts Cam over his desire to be a Ranger, while the others tell Sensei that he'd make a great one.
  • Race Against the Clock:
    • Cam gives the Rangers a temporary boost that allows them to morph and continue fighting Madtropolis. The more they exert themselves, the shorter the window of opportunity. The clock runs out during the Zord fight, leaving them helpless.
    • Before Cam heads into the portal, Sensei warns he will have until the writing on the Scroll of Time disappears to complete his mission. The portal will reopen when the scroll is blank and that will be his only chance to return home.
  • Sadistic Choice: After Madtropolis grows and they're unable to open the sphere container, the Rangers can either face him with steadily weakening powers or let him trash the city.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Marah is confused by Kapri saying the villains will "miss" the Rangers.
  • Tempting Fate: When the others scoff at Cam doing the Brick Break, Dustin likens it to seeing a stunt show where they switched the real bricks with fake ones. Cam throws the shattered brick at Dustin, who is barely able to catch it.
    Dustin: Okay, maybe not.
  • Time Stands Still: Cam activating the Scroll of Time causes everything on Earth outside of Ninja Ops to freeze. Sensei says that will be the case until the writing on the Scroll of Time disappears completely. Lothor's ship is unaffected, due to being in orbit, and the villains immediately take notice of what's happened.
  • Unfinished, Untested, Used Anyway: The teleportation system. Cam is barely able to get the sphere container to Ninja Ops.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: When Lothor starts showering the nieces with compliments, Kapri thinks they're on some kind of prank TV show. It's really just Madtropolis showing off his illusion-casting ability.
