Tropes

  • An Aesop: The pursuit of revenge is self-destructive.
  • Avenging the Villain: After Treacheron is put down, the Shark Brothers vow to avenge him. This leads to the Zord fight.
  • Determinator: Treacheron survives a thrashing from Leo and still wants to keep going.
  • Don't Make Me Destroy You: Leo to Treacheron, who is now too battered to effectively fight but refuses to give in. When Treacheron takes another swipe, Leo is forced to destroy him in self-defense.
  • Dramatic Irony: Bitter enemies Magna Defender and Treacheron have the same goal of trying to kill Trakeena and have no idea what the other was up to.
  • Dream Tells You to Wake Up: In Leo's dream, Mike appears and warns him his friends needed his help, which wakes him up and leads him to join them in the fight.
  • Flashback:
    • When confronting Trakeena, Magna Defender flashes back to Zika's final moments.
    • During his dream, Leo remembers when Mike fell to his supposed death.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Just as Magna Defender is about to kill Trakeena, he feels a great pain in his chest and hears Mike's voice.
    • Trakeena recognizes her failures as a warrior and that she needs someone to train her.
  • Harmless Villain: The episode stresses how Trakeena is in way over her head against Treacheron and Magna Defender. She can't even handle the mooks during a training session.
  • Honor Before Reason: Because of his dishonor, Treacheron would rather kill Leo in battle or be killed by him.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: While most monsters just claim they can easily destroy the Rangers until Rangers destroy them, the Shark Brothers claim they can handle the Rangers, except if they have the Lights of Orion. Both estimations are entirely correct.
  • Morality Chain: Mike's voice urges the Magna Defender not to succumb to vengeance.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The Rangers unknowingly save Trakeena from Treacheron when they arrive on the scene.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: While gloating, Treacheron told the four Rangers none of them can activate the Lights of Orion unless they're together.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Magna Defender talks to Trakeena about the pain of losing a child and how he wants Scorpius to know what that feels like.
  • Real After All: Leo hears Mike's voice, too, and sees him during a dream, though the others think it was just a dream. At the end of the episode, Maya tells Leo she senses something strange and believes that Mike is alive.
  • Revenge: Treacheron wants revenge against Trakeena. Magna Defender wants revenge against Scorpius. The Shark Brothers want to avenge Treacheron after Leo destroys him. It doesn't work out for any of them.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Scorpius killed Zika, so Magna Defender intends to kill Trakeena.
  • Super Mode: It's revealed that all five Rangers must be together in order to activate the Lights of Orion — unclear how the villains knew it while the Rangers didn't. Also, the Rangers learn the Galaxy Megazord can also get a Lights of Orion upgrade.
  • Undying Loyalty:
    • The Shark Brothers are this to Treacheron, helping him with his revenge on Trakeena, and avenging his death.
    • The Stingwingers immediately move to protect Trakeena from Treacheron, not that they stand a chance.
  • Villain Respect: Treacheron admits Leo fights well and that it'd almost be a shame to finish him.
  • Wham Line: "Don't give into vengeance." The real whammy is that it's Mike's voice.
  • "You!" Exclamation: Trakeena when confronted by Magna Defender.
