Recap / Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue S1E18 A Face from the Past

Go To

The Rangers' day off is put on hold when the Shockatron Demon causes a fire at the local power plant. While tending to the fire, Carter finds out who rescued him years ago.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • An Aesop: Mitchell reminds Carter that the work is always important, but it's okay to take a day off and relax every now and then.
  • Beach Episode: Partly. Captain Mitchell gave the team the day off and everyone but Carter headed to the beach.
  • Breather Episode: Is immediately followed by Queen Bansheera returning and nearly wiping Mariner Bay off the map, and Ryan leaving to find a way to seal the demons away.
  • Dented Iron: Mitchell was a firefighter when Carter was a child. Though a Retired Badass who saves the day in the end, Mitchell ultimately gets worn out by the taxing rescue work faster than his younger colleagues and struggles to heal up as quickly.
  • Flashback: Carter remembering when he was a child and the firefighter saving his life.
  • Firefighting Episode: While it's been known since episode 1 that Carter used to be a professional firefighter before becomming a ranger, this episode finally sees him act as one as he and Captain Mitchell help out the local firefighters save people from a burning building.
  • Freudian Excuse: Carter is driven to train and work himself hard in order to be as good as the firefighter who saved his life.
  • I Owe You My Life: After learning the truth, Carter feels this way towards Mitchell, but the Captain won't hear of it. As far as Mitchell is concerned, Carter has already paid back the debt several times over by helping save the citizens of Mariner Bay again and again.
  • The Real Heroes: While the Rangers fight off the Monster of the Week, Mitchell helps a group of firefighters save civilians from a burning building. Carter also refers to the firefighter who saved him as a personal hero and his inspiration in life.
  • Retired Badass: Captain Mitchell demonstrates that, despite being retired, he's still got the skills from his old job as a firefighter.
  • The Reveal: Though hinted at previously, it's formally revealed that Captain Mitchell was the firefighter who saved Carter's life years ago.
