Tropes

  • An Aesop: An unaddressed argument or fallout can seriously affect the functioning of a team.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Cassie is so shocked by Ashley being abducted that she doesn't notice Psycho Pink moving in, but the other Rangers immediately get in the way.
      Psycho Pink: She's mine!
      Andros: I don't think so!
    • As Psycho Pink's monster form pummels the Mega Voyager, Zhane arrives in the Mega Winger.
  • Book Ends: The episode opens with Cassie nagging Ashley about making a mess while she's trying to clean. It ends with a playful argument where Ashley is insisting she now help Cassie clean.
  • Chekhov's Gun: In a fight with Psycho Yellow, Psycho Pink's visor gets cracked. Ashley witnesses this, and remembers it later so the Rangers can exploit it.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Ashley is able exploit the argument between the Psychos and escape from her prison.
  • Double-Meaning Title: The rift in the title is ostensibly referring to Ashley and Cassie's falling out, but it's also appropriate for the tension between Psycho Pink and Yellow.
  • Feud Episode: Between the female heroes and villains.
  • Foil: The respective Yellow and Pink Rangers for each other. Ashley and Cassie complain over minor things, but Cassie realises how the argument affected their work in Angel Grove, and goes out of her way to save her friend. Psycho Pink falls out with Psycho Yellow, and the pettiness involved costs them their prisoner, and means Pink is left alone when she has all five Rangers to go up against.
  • I Lied: Psycho Yellow nabs Ashley instead of Cassie.
Psycho Pink: But you promised it would be Pink!
    Psycho Yellow: I lied. [laughs]
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Cassie is horrified when Ashley is kidnapped, and blames herself for it.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Psycho Yellow makes this call. She's wrong, of course.
  • One-Winged Angel: This episode reveals that all the Psychos can go like this when they're near defeat. Psycho Pink takes the form of a giant plant monster.
  • Pinned to the Ground: When Ashley falls to the ground during the battle between the Rangers and the Psycho Rangers, Psycho Pink proceeds to stomp on her pinning her down.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Astronema lets Psycho Pink fight the Rangers by herself, knowing that the battle will drain lots of Dark Spectre's energy. She also uses the defeat to make an example of her, warning the Psychos to never attack the Rangers without her permission; guaranteeing her plan to drain Dark Spectre will go on without a hitch.
  • Stupid Evil: Rather than be happy they have a Power Ranger captured and using that to their advantage, Psycho Pink just gets into a fight with Psycho Yellow that they didn't capture Cassie as opposed to Ashley. Because of this, Ashley is able to escape.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: During the fight, Psycho Yellow gets the drop on Ashley by assuming the form of a terrified senior citizen.
