Zeltrax creates a monster to win back Mesogog's approval and exact his revenge against the White Ranger. Mercer tells the story on how he created Mesogog.


Tropes

  • Beyond Redemption: At the beginning of the episode, Kira sadly thinks that there might not be any good left in Trent. However, due to Anton Mercer stopping the Life-Force extractor, it accidentally frees Trent from the gem's evil influence.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Trent is free from the White dino gem's evil influence and has joined the other rangers, but Zeltrax has managed to use Copyotter's power to create a evil clone of the White Ranger without any trace of Trent.
  • Call-Back: Elsa watches footage of Zeltrax and Trent's last battle in the previous episode, and she was amused of how Zeltrax was defeated.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Anton Mercer, as aloof he can seem, he makes it clear that he doesn't like the evil changes on Trent's personality caused by the white dino gem.
  • Foreshadowing: When Trent morphs to challenge Copyotter, he keeps his normal voice instead of his deeper one, which could be foreshadow him becoming good again.
  • Frame-Up: Zeltrax trashes Mesogog's laboratory and uses Copyotter to copy the White Ranger's dagger to frame him and getting Mesogog to destroy him.
  • Idiot Ball: When battling Copyotter, Conner comes up with the dumb plan of tricking the monster to copy their cannon with its hole closed so it would explode on him, but he said that out loud and the monster simply opened the cannon before blasting the rangers.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Played with, as Trent doesn't fight Mesogog, but pleads with his father when his alter ego tries to destroy him with his life-force extractor, and it works.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Zeltrax's Frame-Up plot and Mesogog's attempting to execute Trent as a result lead to Trent turning good again and joining the other Rangers, Elsa even advises Zeltrax to flee from Mesogog for this.
  • Reformed, but Rejected: Played with, the other rangers let Trent join them and give him another chance, but still don't trust him, and to make up, they make him to wash all their zords.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: While Copyotter is another Monster of the Week that's destroyed by the end of the episode, his weapon's ability to copy both people and objects allows Zeltrax to salvage said weapon and create a perfect clone of the White Ranger that's pure evil.
  • Tempting Fate: When Devin suggests that Cassidy should clone herself to keep her busy schedule, she replies that there couldn't be more than one Cassidy Cornell, and she bumps into Copyotter who creates four Cassidys.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Elsa gets one with her change of look, and Zeltrax implies she did that to attract Tommy's attention.
