Recap / Power Rangers Dino Fury Episode One Destination Dinohenge

Go To

When two teenagers stumble across the Dinohenge statues, they both get launched head first into a battle to stop an evil warrior's plot.

Episode Tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Dr. Akana accidentally calls the park ranger "Park Ranger Buzzkill" after overhearing Amelia muttering it.
  • Badass Bystander: When Amelia and Ollie witness Void Knight threatening Solon, their first instinct is to pick up swords to defend her. This display of heroism ends up making them worthy of becoming Power Rangers.
  • Behind the Black: Solon tries throwing the Hengemen key to Ollie and Amelia, but Void Knight manages to catch it. Seconds before, Void Knight was under a net right in front of Solon, so how exactly she managed not to see he was right in her path is a mystery.
  • Blatant Lies: Amelia assures Jane that her coverage of Dinohenge will not be about ghosts, it will be an entirely serious piece of journalism. Cut to Amelia in the forest with a giant net for capturing ghosts.
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: Zig-Zagged. When the Hengemen are awakened, they easily overwhelm Amelia and Ollie despite their training. When the duo morph for the first time and Zayto is awakened, they overpower their attacks easily.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The Green, Black, and Gold Rangers make brief appearances during Zayto's story along with the Rangers' Super Modes and most of the Zord fleet. Similarly, a few of the Sporix Beasts appear during the flashback.
  • Foreshadowing: During the fight against the Hengemen, when one is thrown into a device the camera lingers on the object, showing that it has been damaged. This item ends up coming back in the third episode.
  • Ma'am Shock: Solon's pretty miffed about being called old, when she's upward of sixty-five million years old.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The first episode of this season has the Red, Blue, and Pink Rangers receive their powers first. Kind of like how Ninja Steel handled it.
    • The Morphin' Masters were first, and in fact only, previously mentioned in Mighty Morphin' season one, as the origin of a pair of "power eggs" that the Rangers had to protect from Rita.
    • The Morphin' Masters' appearance here look similar to depictions in the comics.
    • Once again, as per Mighty Morphin', Smilodon note  is referred to as a dinosaur.
  • Never Say "Die": Solon and Zayto communicate the war with the Sporix was costly and that the other Rangers lost their lives, while obeying the trope as Zayto is clearly shaken over it. Ollie and Amelia do get the intent however.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Solon tries to throw a key to Amelia and Ollie to let the Hengemen join in the fight against Void Knight only for him to intercept it and use it to turn the Hengemen into his army.
    • Zayto hurls his dagger at Void Knight, who knocks it back, breaking open the chest and allowing the Sporix to escape.
  • Percussive Maintenance: Solon, frustrated at Zayto's damaged capsule not working, ends up slamming her fists on it, causing it to finally function.
  • Sole Survivor: Zayto realizes he is the only living member of his team and communicates this, despite Never Say "Die" being in place.
  • Taser Tag Weakness: Averted. Both Ollie and Void Knight are nailed by the electric shock of Amelia's ghost net, but Ollie is annoyed and Void Knight recovers almost instantly.
  • Too Slow: Void Knight says this when he catches a kick from Zayto.
