Recap / Power Rangers Dino Supercharge S2E2 Forgive and Forget

Go To

Heckyl has a plan to use Stingrage's modified venom to erase the Ranger's memories and steal their Energems by trickery, but Snide is more interested in just taking them by force.

With Stingrage reanimated, Wrench modifies his venom so that rather than causing a berserker rage, it instead induces amnesia in the victim. While Snide wants Stingrage to just attack the rangers, Heckyl wants to put it into the city's water supply in order to stealthily take the Energems instead.

Last episode, Heckyl was hired at the Dino Byte cafe as a waiter, and is now shown working with the rangers. One of Riley's old classmates, Bert is in town for the Amber Beach marathon, and this particular guy constantly taunted him in school. Riley first tries to beat him at arm wrestling using his Energem but is distracted by Kendall and loses. Heckyl notes this and incorporates it into one of his schemes, Snide however disagrees with Heckyl's slow pace and wants the Energems quickly. While Riley is off training, Bert and his flunkies arrive and try to browbeat and taunt him again. Riley tries to cheat at a contest again and fails, leading the three to laugh at him. Heckyl helps him up and tells him that beating him in the marathon would put the bully in his place. As they talk, the pair get attacked by Stingrage, and Riley hides Heckyl before trying to counterattack. Heckyl meanwhile scolds Snide for adjusting his plan, before realizing it could work in a different manner. He takes a stinger meant for Riley, losing his memories in the process, before the other rangers arrive. While Tyler and Shelby get demorphed by a particularly powerful hit, the others are able to drive him away.

Kendall tells the rangers off for bringing Heckyl to the base, but relents when they tell her about Stingrage's new venom. They administer an antidote to Heckyl, who regains his memories, before promising not to tell their secret to anyone. However, while the rangers discuss their next move, Heckyl converses with Snide, saying that he can't steal the Energems now because he is outnumbered 7-1. Instead, the pair go through with Heckyl's original gambit, poisoning the aquifer and by extension the water supply. At the race, the runners start losing their memories at the checkpoints due to the poisoned water, and Heckyl takes the opportunity to get Koda's Energem. Riley (who was unaffected since he had his own energy drink) notes it is a good idea to collect the Energems and put them in the base for safekeeping, to Heckyl's annoyance. While Kendall administers a city-wide antidote, Riley gives the runners and the rangers a portable antidote, and returns their energems. Heading to the aquifer, the six face off against Fury and Stingrage, defeating the latter with the Armor X charger. Stingrage responds by using the Magnabeam to enlarge himself, absorbing the poison in the water for extra power. The rangers are able to finally defeat him by using the Superdrive charger in the megazord which Kendall was working on earlier.

Back in the prison ship, Heckyl informs the monsters that they have the location of the ranger base, and he has gained their trust. As they toast their impending victory, their memories are erased, courtesy of Curio putting the poisoned water in their cups.

Tropes:

  • Book Dumb: Bert, at least in regards to math he claims.
  • The Bully: Bert has a history of harassing Riley for being smart.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Riley tries to win at arm wrestling and climbing a training wall using his Energem to augment his abilities; it backfires when despite his strength he is distracted by Kendall in the arm wrestle, and he overshoots the climbing wall when he tries to hurdle it and ends up in the tree instead. When he considers using it to improve his speed in the marathon, he chooses not to with this trope in mind.
  • The Chessmaster: While ultimately unsuccessful, Heckyl's plan in this episode pretty much cements this as his villain status.
  • Driven by Envy: Bert admits he was always harassing Riley because he's jealous of the other boy's intelligence.
  • Evil Is Petty: Heckyl's first scene has him steal the ice cream cone of a little boy and then drop it on a chair for a woman to sit on.
  • Evil Mentor: Variation with Heckyl; he's the one who convinces Riley to show up Bert in the race. Circumstances throughout the rest of the episode prevents this from succeeding along with his main objective.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Bert at first, see above.
  • Identity Amnesia: Everyone hit with Stingrage's modified venom suffers from this.
  • Jerkass with a Heart of Gold: Heckyl in his 'good guy' persona, as he steals a kid's ice cream cone, before tossing it onto a chair for someone to sit on. He gains the heart of gold part by 'saving' Riley from Stingrage.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Heckyl; see Evil Mentor.
  • Memory Gambit: Heckyl allows Stingrage to shoot him and erase his memories, so the Rangers will take him to their base to get a cure; once he regains his memory and knows their base's location, he can return and steal their Energems easily.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: After Heckyl's learned where the Ranger's base is, Curio accidentally puts the memory-erasing venom in his drink.
  • Secret-Keeper: Subverted, of course Heckyl knows already about the rangers before they "reveal" themselves to him, but they don't know that.
  • Status Quo Is God: Piggybacking off of the end of the last episode, all the Amber Beach native rangers are back working at the cafe, god only knows what Shelby and Chase's families think happened after Iceage kidnapped their children. Downplayed with Heckyl as he is now their coworker and now is in on their secret (as far as they know). Plus they still don't know about his relationship with Snide. Played straight however as Curio's stupidity costs him his memory of the ranger base.
  • Super Mode: The team gets a new Megazord-exclusive enhancement mode: Dino Super Drive, an upgrade to the Dino Drive. Unlike the previous version, there's only one Charger, but it activates the mode for the entire team. The Ranger who activated it also gets a new weapon, the Dino Super Drive Saber.
  • Water Source Tampering: Heckyl plans to put Stingrage's modified venom, now amnesia-inducing rather than anger-inducing, into Amber Beach's water supply. Between the rangers' antidote and Stingrage's absorbing all the venom back from the water to power himself up, its intended effects don't last.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Heckyl is able to take Snide's plan and adapt it on the fly to put himself in a position to take the Energems in the base. When he tries to take the Energems from the amnesiac rangers, Riley says that putting the Energems in the base is a great idea, and Heckyl heads to the base to grab them. While he was unsuccessful at getting the Energems, he did learn their base's location; at least until Curio made him forget. And of course he still knows the rangers civilian identities and they know he knows, so he still came out on top.
