Recap / Power Rangers Dino Charge S1E3 A Fool's Hour

Go To

On Sledge's ship, Sledge is naturally angry that Fury was on earth 65 million years but didn't recover a single energem. However, his chiding of him is put on hold when a prisoner bends his prison bars and tries to escape. Shooting him down, Sledge tells the prisoner-Scrapper-that he'll take him to any galaxy if he'll help in a new plan to take the energems.

The Rangers meanwhile are all assigned jobs in the museum's restaurant as cover for their secret identities, much to Shelby's displeasure. They group are also told that Koda is actually a caveman, having lived so long because the Energems prevent their holders from aging. Tyler is disturbed to find that one of Koda's cave paintings matches the sketch of Fury in his father's journal.

The rangers get called away to a fight with Sledge's group and are quickly defeated. Sledge demands they turn the Energems over to him in one hour. Tyler spots Fury and decides to follow him, despite Chase stating that they should stick together. However this turns out to be a lucky decision as Tyler over hears Fury and Sledge discussing their real plan: Have one of Sledge's monsters follow the Rangers back to their base.

Tyler manages to catch the monster before he leaves to tell Sledge and the other Rangers back him up, bringing Kendall's new upgrade: Dino Steel. They use the new mode to summon armour and their personal weapons to face down the monster. Shelby summons her Tricera Zord for the first time (Tyler also summons the T-Rex Zord again).

Kendall advises Koda to summon his Stega Zord as well since she has figured out how to combine them together. The three go ahead and form the Dino Charge Megazord, Tri-Stego Formation and defeat the monster once and for all.

In the museum restaurant, Tyler and Chase apologize to one another, each admitting that the other's idea had merit.

Tropes used in this episode:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Kendall is seen smiling at Shelby's jab at Chase liking that he's going to look the same forever.
  • An Aesop:
    • You can still work together when you're apart.
    • Or perhaps more generally, teamwork requires flexibility.
  • Continuity Nod: When was the last time the rangers worked as fast food employees as their cover? Jungle Fury - a season which also had 3 zords combine for a megazord.
    • Speaking of which, the method of controlling the Megazord through the Rangers' own movements is similar to Jungle Fury as well.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The rangers are on the receiving end of one this time, as Sledge and his crew arrive to deliver their demands in person. The fight goes so bad for them, they demorph after a single hit, each.
  • Immortality: The Energems grant a version of immortality - where you remain the same age - which catches some of the rangers off guard when Kendall tells them Koda is a 100,000 year old caveman. Sledge and his crew also seem to have achieved some semblance of immortality as they don't appear to have aged a day since the Cretaceous.
  • Living Forever Is Awesome: Shelby and Chase seem fairly happy with the fact the Energems make them The Ageless.
  • Mythology Gag: After the opening, Chase is seen fixing his skateboard while singing lyrics to the tune of Kyoryuger's theme song. Also, in the final scene, Koda can be heard humming Kyoryuger's theme song.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Keeper, who appears to chat with Sledge from a ball of colored mist, then vanishes the same way. The rangers are needless to say, confused.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: When the Dino Charge Megazord fights Scrapper, the instrumental to Dino Charge kicks in; and it is glorious!
  • Win Your Freedom: When one of his prisoners attempts to escape his ship, Sledge promises to 'Chauffeur him to any galaxy he wishes' in return for bringing him one of the Energems.
