Recap / Power Rangers Beast Morphers Episode 31 Secret Struggle

Go To

Steel learns of Nate and Zoey affection for each other and tries to defy Grid Battleforce's rule against Rangers dating other Rangers to get them together. Meanwhile, Evox tries to hide his dark secret from the Rangers.

Tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: If only Zoey hadn't been balancing ramen on her lap.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with the Rangers learning that Mayor Daniels has been possessed by Evox.
  • Double-Meaning Title: The episode's title refers to Zoey and Nate trying to keep their relationship a secret and to Evox trying to keep himself from being revealed.
  • Dramatic Irony: The Rangers spend most of the episode defending Evox from his own minions.
  • Instant Costume Change: Ben and Betty invent a grenade that invokes this.
  • Internal Reveal: The Rangers find out that Evox has possessed Mayor Daniels. Also everyone finds out that Nate and Zoey have feelings for each other.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Nate and Zoey really don’t want to hide their relationship.
  • Mood Whiplash: The final scene rapidly goes from Nate and Zoey arranging their first official date to the Rangers discovering that Evox is possessing Mayor Daniels.
  • Mythology Gag: The scene with the Rangers discovering that Mayor Daniels is Evox is very similar to how the Dino Thunder Rangers discover that Anton Mercer is Mesogog.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Sure, Nate and Zoey meant well by protecting the Mayor from Blaze and Roxy, but it ultimately led to a reveal none of Grid Battleforce were ready for.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Thanks to Evox not being careful where he meets his allies while in Mayor Daniels' form, his secret is exposed and he's no longer able to return to his secret base without revealing it to the Rangers.
  • Official Couple: Nate and Zoey become this at the end of the episode, after Commander Shaw rescinds the no-dating policy.
  • Spaghetti Kiss: Due to Steel's intentional tripping of Nate's bowl of noodles, Nate and Zoey are forced to share the remaining bowl, which leads to this trope.
  • That Man Is Dead: After Evox is exposed, he states that nothing remains of the real Mayor Daniels.
  • This Cannot Be!: Robo-Roxy's reaction when an unmorphed Zoey defeats her and Robo-Blaze with the Beast King Spin Sword.
  • Wham Episode: The Commander rescinds the rules on Rangers dating and the above mentioned Internal Reveal happens.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Steel, a male identifying robot, accidentally gets put into a glittery pink princess dress. He has no problems with it whatsoever and even likes it.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: When Zoey sees Evox and Robo-Roxy meeting in the parking lot, Evox pretends that Robo-Roxy is trying to kidnap him. This backfires when Commander Shaw not only assigns two Rangers to keep watch on the mayor at all times, but Nate injects him with a tracking device, inadvertently preventing Evox from returning to the Crystal Dimension.
