Recap / Power Rangers Beast Morphers Episode 20 Evox Upgraded

Go To

Mayor Daniels joins the Rangers in a desperate attempt to rescue Devon and stop Evox once and for all.

Episode Tropes:

  • Big "NO!": Evox does this just before his new body is destroyed.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Evox is seemingly destroyed, the real Blaze and Roxy are safe and sound, Devon finally earned the recognition from his father... and his father is infected with Evox.
  • Call-Back: During their final confrontation, Devon and Avatar Blaze have the same dialogue that Devon and the real Blaze had in Episode 1 ("Someone's gonna get hurt!" "That someone is you!"), except their roles are reversed. Also counts as an Ironic Echo.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Morph-X tower that Evox's forces steal ends up being used to destroy him.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends on a relatively minor one (compared to past seasons), but with major potential consequences for Season 2 nonetheless. It is hinted that Evox may have survived his apparent destruction, and has infected (possibly even taken over) Mayor Daniels's body.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Rangers use their Ultrazord to utterly annihilate an army of Gigadrones sent to intercept them. Unfortunately, they then end up on the receiving end of this - twice - by Evox in his new body.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Evox is done in, not by the Rangers, but his desire to escape into the real world as Nate reverses the teleportation just long enough so that he's done in by the unstable Morph-X tower's explosion.
  • Load-Bearing Boss: To set off the Morph-X tower, Devon fights Avatar Blaze in one last battle. The destruction of Blaze's Megazord sets off a chain reaction that causes the tower to blow.
  • Made of Explodium: According to Zoey, Morph-X is extremely explosive.
  • Make My Monster Grow: For the first time in this series the villains actually make themeselves grow as oppose to using a Gigadrone for combat. In this case it's Evox himself who is able to use the Morph-X inside his body to make himself grow after he defeats the Rangers.
  • Outrun the Fireball: A dual example. Devon and Cruise have to outrun the exploding tower, then have to outrun the massive Morph-X fireball alongside the other Rangers, Beast Bots and Mayor Daniels. In an interesting case, Devin doesn't escape the second fireball and is carried back injured from it.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Evox vs. the Beast-X Ultrazord ends in one shot as the powered up villain completely nukes the Ultrazord, leaving only Devon's Zord intact. Even worse, Evox vs. the Rangers ends just as bad.
  • So Proud of You: Devon finally hears his father say this after they escape the Cyber Dimension.
  • Storming the Castle: To save Devon and stop Evox, the other Rangers charge into the Cyber Dimension.
  • The End... Or Is It?: As stated under Cliffhanger, there's a strong possibility that Evox is Not Quite Dead.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Defied. Mayor Daniels is quite angry learning that Devon was a Power Ranger and chews out Commander Shaw, asking if she knows how it feels to have a child out on the field like that. Commander Shaw, however, counteracts this because she had done this before in the past several episodes. Then Ravi and Zoey race in and Daniels is quickly silenced and humbled.
Mayor Daniels: My son is a Ranger? Why didn't you tell me? Do you have any idea what it's like to have your child's life in danger?
Commander Shaw: Respectfully, sir, I do. (Ravi and Zoey run in)
Ravi: Commander, we're ready to go.
    (Mayor Daniels stunned at them)
Commander Shaw: Meet my son, Ravi.
  • The Worf Effect: In the span of five minutes, the Beast-X Ultrazord, whose debut fight was bulldozing through a squad of Gigadrones, gets one shot by Evox. Although it was used to show how outmatched the Rangers are against Evox.
