On their way to Slateport City, Ash and friends meet a competitive trainer named Morrison, who owns a Beldam. Ash and Morrison end up competing in ridiculous activities, no matter what.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- An Odd Place to Sleep: Morrison and his Beldam sleep in a tree, using a hammock. Ash tries to do the same.
- Berserk Button: Morrison gets really upset when May's Munchlax steals and eats his entire sandwich.
- Big Eater:
- Munchlax. He starts the episode by eating all of May's Pokemon's food in front of them, and later on, eats Morrison's sandwich whole, and also eats Team Rocket's cracker.
- Morrison and Ash eats several pieces of food in an eating contest. Morrison claims he can eat 20 pieces with no problem, prompting Ash to try and eat 30 pieces.
- Competition Freak: Throughout the episode, Ash and Morrison compete with each other with everything, even running to the Pokemon Center and eating bowls of food.
- Eating Contest: One of the Ash vs. Morrison segments includes this.
- Not Me This Time: Meowth accuses Wobbuffet of taking their cracker when it disappears, but he denies doing so.
- Skyward Scream: After Munchlax eats Morrison's sandwich, he lets this out. This scream is what calms him down.
