Recap / Pokemon S 7 E 37 A Fan With A Plan

Go To

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Action Mom: The entire MFP (Moms For Pokémon) is a group of wives and mothers who are also Pokémon trainers, attending and even entering contests. This is particularly true for Savannah, the one member of the group who's actually won a contest, who gets the chance to show her chops by helping to fight off Team Rocket.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Both played straight and inverted with Savannah and Sandra; Sandra apologizes to May and friends for her mom's gushing about Pokémon and contests, and Savannah is clearly a bit embarrassed by her daughter's occasional needling.
  • Bubble Gun: Drew's new Masquerain can shoot bubbles to create a beautiful display; when it does this during practice, it wows May and her Pokémon, who are watching nearby.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: When Jessie tries to register for the contest, she discovers that only contestants who have previously won at least one ribbon are allowed to enter, so she instead resorts to trying to steal May's and Savannah's ribbons. James and Meowth are entirely unenthusiastic about the plan, and when the twerps have them cornered and she initially refuses to return the ribbons, they both irritably point out to her that nobody would believe they're actually hers. She gives a mild protest but returns the ribbons anyway.
  • Cuteness Proximity:
    • Savannah adores May's Bulbasaur, noting that her own starter Pokémon from when she was a young girl was a Bulbasaur as well.
    • Sandra asks to hold Pikachu and coos about how cute it is, much to the latter's delight.
  • Fangirl / Squee: The entire MFP, despite being a group of thirty- or forty-something women, act like this towards some of the other coordinators. This includes Savannah, though she's a bit more subdued about it.
    • They first do this with Drew, crowding around him, showing him their memorabilia with his picture on it, and asking for his autograph. Unlike Gary back in the day, who reveled in the attention, Drew clearly just feels more awkward about it than anything.
    • Once Savannah confirms that May is Norman's daughter, the MFP moms start acting like this towards her as well. She too is flustered by it, but it also starts to over-inflate her ego.
  • Mama Bear: Savannah is already mad at Team Rocket for stealing her ribbon, but when Jessie has Dustox try to attack Savannah's daughter Sandra (who is saved by May and Bulbasaur), she gets even angrier and has Flareon set their balloon on fire.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: After Jessie reluctantly returns the contest ribbons without a fight once Team Rocket is cornered, they ask the twerps to put out the fire in their balloon. At Sandra's suggestion, Savannah has Lairon use Water Pulse to do so, but also blasts them off in the process, causing James and Meowth to complain "Ungrateful twerps are the worst kind!" It's a bit empty, though, considering everything they'd done up to that point.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Jessie orders Dustox to attack Sandra, who's a little girl about Max's age.
