Ash and co. run into Gary again and learn about an upcoming racing challenge called "Extreme Pokemon," where Pokemon must race from start to finish while pulling their trainers on skateboards. Gary is entering with his Arcanine, so Ash decides to enter with his Bayleef.

- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In the beginning of the episode, Ash was worried about how Extreme Pokémon would hurt the Pokémon that he wouldn’t eat.
- Title Drop: Inevitably, since the episode title is also the name of the competition.
- Took a Level in Kindness: Once again, Gary has gotten kinder since his last appearance. While he and Ash still rip on each other, its all in good spirit this time. His turning down of Ash's challenge at the start is also polite and civil unlike past rebukes.
