The one where... Ash and Co. become fire fighters.
Our heroes try, but are unable to extinguish a dangerous fire, until the local fire brigade — a trained team of Wartortles — arrives and squelches the flames. As a second fire rages, however, Team Rocket abducts the Wartortles, leaving Ash, Misty, Tracey, and their Pokémon to somehow save the nearby town from a fiery end.

- Always Someone Better: Squirtle is disappointed that he's not able to deal with the warehouse fire, and that the Wartortles have to extinguish it.
- Big Damn Heroes: The Wartortle squad shows up at the last minute to battle the apartment fire.
- Call-Back: There's justified discussion of (and a flashback to) "Here Comes The Squirtle Squad", the episode where Ash first met Squirtle, in order to explain to Tracey what happened back then.
- Firefighting Episode: The wartortle that Squirtle develops a rivalry with is part of a professional firefighting team. Squirtle himself gets to participate in a Heroic Fire Rescue later.
- Heroic Fire Rescue: Ash's Squirtle and the Wartortle leader go into the apartment fire to rescue a young boy.
- Identical Twin Id Tag: The Wartortle leader wears a scarf; Ash's Squirtle brings out his Cool Shades again.
