The Rising Volt Tacklers stop at an island in the Kanto region for an emergency repair. Meanwhile, Liko is assigned as lookout. Also, the Fuecoco that lives with the Rising Volt Tacklers has slipped off the airship and goes looking for food. Upon realizing Fuecoco's absence, Liko leaves the airship to look for it. However, during her search, Liko and her Sprigatito are blamed by wild Pokémon for eating their food.

Roy is exploring the island until he hears Fuecoco's singing and goes to meet it. However, Fuecoco runs away from Roy and almost falls off a cliff until he saves it. Roy and Fuecoco then form a friendship. They then hear Liko in trouble as Roy comes to her rescue and they quickly befriend each other. Unfortunately, the wild Pokémon have caught up to them, and Liko and Roy got captured by them. Fortunately, Friede comes to their rescue, and Liko and Fuecoco leave to go back to the airship.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • All Webbed Up: The wild Pokémon mainly consist of some Caterpie and Weedle, and they tie up Liko, Roy, Sprigatito, and Fuecoco in retaliation for their berries being eaten. Friede is able to effortlessly dodge those same attacks and tie up the Pokémon with it.
  • Badass Pacifist: Friede is able to defuse the situation with the wild Pokémon by dodging their String Shot attacks and turning it back against them, all without having either of his partners battle. He then feeds them some berries to calm them down.
  • Big Eater: Small as he is, Fuecoco can chomp down an entire bunch of berries like they were nothing.
  • Costume Evolution: Liko changes from her school uniform to regular clothes, which is her main outfit for the series.
  • Foreshadowing: Friede kindly asks Roy's Grandfather not to refer to him as Pokémon Professor, which shocks the latter. Kind of surprising that Friede wouldn't want the prestige of the title, but this turns out to be a big factor behind his motivations later.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: While the Bug Type Pokémon are able to string up Liko and Roy, Friede just dodges around them and gets the bugs to tie themselves up when they try the same with him.
  • The Klutz: Fuecoco demonstrates this trope when he slides off the airship and lands on the beach, as he wound up getting blown away by the wind.
  • Lost Food Grievance: A group of wild Caterpie, Diglett, Weedle, and Scyther attack Liko and Sprigatito when they think the two ate their berries. It was Fuecoco who did it, but they aren't aware of that.
  • Mythology Gag: Like with Ash and Pikachu, Liko and Sprigatito get pursued by an army of angry Pokémon, though in the latter's case, it's a mix of Bug Types and a few Diglett, rather than the Spearow Flock the former went up against.
  • Noodle Incident: Roy's Grandfather doesn't seem to be on good terms with Friede for whatever reason, and refuses to help him patch the holes in his ship.
  • Stage Fright: Played With. Fuecoco loves to sing, but he only does so when nobody's looking. If someone spots him, he runs off and hides out of fear. Roy is the first person to compliment him on how beautiful his singing is, which builds up the Fire Croc's confidence.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Fuecoco eats a batch of wild berries left in a pile. Unfortunately, those berries were meant for a group of wild Pokémon, and when they see Liko and Sprigatito there, they assume those two ate their food and charge at them in revenge.
