The exhibition match between Ash and Professor Kukui continues, with both trainers having three Pokémon. Among the matchups, Ash's Torracat ends up going against Kukui's Incineroar, with the rivalry set to be concluded between them. However, as the match nears the end, an unexpected presence makes itself known.
- Curb Stomp Cushion: Kukui's Lucario gets some good hits on Naganadel with its Extremespeed and Close Combat but ultimately suffers a lot more damage and is KO'd fairly easily.
- KOed Standing Up: Ash's Incineroar is stuck in its post-evolution roar, making everyone realize it's effectively fainted after its exhausting battles.
- Later-Installment Weirdness: Ash's Torracat evolves the normal way unlike when it evolved from Litten with a special evolution sequence.
- No Range Like Point-Blank Range: Lucario gets taken down by a point blank Dragon Pulse from Naganadel after blocking Naganadel's X-Scissor with its paw.
- No-Sell: Lucario being part Steel-type is immune to Naganadel's Sludge Bomb with Ash saying he forgot about that.
- Oh, Crap!:
- Twice during Nanganadel's battle with Lucario: First when Lucario is immune to Sludge Bomb and then when Nanganadel takes out Lucario with a point blank Dragon Pulse fired from its side stingers.
- Played for Laughs when Tapu Koko shows up and Faba hopes it isn't mad at him
- Out-Gambitted: Lucario blocks Naganadel's X-Scissor with its paw...which just allows the Poison/Dragon-type to point its side stingers at Lucario and unleash a point-blank Dragon Pulse that knocks the Aura Pokémon out.
- The Unreveal: Due to Tapu Koko inserting itself into the battle, we don't know what Kukui's intended final Pokemon would've been.
- Wham Line: "Incineroar is unable to battle!"...Ash's Incineroar, that is.
- Wham Shot:
- After defeating Incineroar, Torracat evolves into one itself... and the scene transitions into another Wham Shot seconds later when it is revealed it used up the last of its energy and is unable to battle.
- When Hala tells both Ash and Kukui to send out their next Pokémon when Tapu Koko arrives! Tapu Koko flies towards Ash and circles around him before flying to Professor Kukui (who asks the Electric/Fairy-type if something's wrong) and then Tapu Koko slaps Professor Kukui's Poké Ball out of his hand and takes its place as Kukui's final Pokémon!
