- Bait-and-Switch: It looks like Rowlett had fainted and Nanu even calls the match in Hau's favor. Then Hala protests and it's revealed Rowlet had fallen asleep yet again. Ash is not amused.
- Call-Back: Hala being the one who overthrows the call makes sense since Rowlet had fallen asleep during Ash's Grand Trial against him.
- Take That!: Ash's Rowlet looking like it's been knocked out only to revealed to have been sleeping and then wakes up to beat Decidueye is one to Ash's battle with Ritchie where the Jerkass referee declared Squirtle unable to battle after he fell asleep from Happy's Sleep Powder.
