Ash has another run-in with the Litten he found at the Hau'oli City beach, and finds that it is being bullied by an Alolan Persian. Can Ash help Litten with its issues? Does Litten even need his help?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • The Artful Dodger: Part of why Litten is stealing food is to give food to an aging Stoutland he stays with.
  • Cone of Shame: To prevent Litten from licking his wounds, he ends up in a "Heliolisk collar"—which is, essentially, one of these—after a visit to the Pokémon Center. It hinders his attempt to escape Ash's help.
  • Cut a Slice, Take the Rest: When Ash offers Litten a piece of his sandwich, Litten takes the rest of the sandwich instead.
  • Don't Split Us Up: Ash decides not to catch Litten after seeing he's taking care of a Stoutland.
  • Foreshadowing: Team Rocket make a brief cameo, just enjoying the beach. Litten steals their food, then burns them with Ember. It will set up a confrontation in a future episode.
    • Looking back, RotomDex's entry for Litten tells the entire story of Ash's relationship with this Litten, leading up to its capture in SM021.
    • Litten has a nightmare about Stoutland dying, and RotomDex mentions that Stoutland is rather elderly in both the original and the English dub. Again, refer to SM021.
  • Oh, Crap!: Persian's reaction when Litten gets dangerous and blasts it at point-blank range.
  • Rump Roast: When Litten perfects Ember, the Alolan Persian ends up running away with its tail still on fire.
