Feeling unappreciated at home and work, Mallow decides to quit her family's restaurant. Can she find some understanding from an Oranguru that has an odd bar in the middle of the jungle?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • And I Must Scream: Instruct is seemingly conveyed as such, Meowth is aware and panics when Oranguru immobilises him with it and sends him to break Steenee free.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Bewear shows up, it looks like it's going to fight Oranguru. We get a Battle Aura power up, and they dramatically appear to throw fisticuffs. But it turns out they are exchanging goods: Bewear's honey for some of Oranguru's Pinap Juice. Bewear then grabs Team Rocket and skips off merrily.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Pretty much the whole episode is Mallow having reached breaking point, losing patience with her father's inconsiderate treatment. It is implied Bewear is also the only reason Team Rocket didn't suffer another Extreme Mêlée Revenge at her hands after they try to kidnap Steenee during this inappropriate time.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Mallow has zero qualms having Steenee Double Slap the shit out of Meowth, after she receives a second chance boost by Oranguru's instruct. After Jessie throws a tantrum over it being a dirty tactic, an indignant Mallow points out she'd said the same about theirs' the whole time beforehand.
Jessie: You're acting more like a Twerp!
Mallow: You'll see what a Twerp can do!
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: Compared to last time, Meowth is much more prepared against Steenee and handily dodges all her attacks. It's only when Oranguru uses Instruct on her that he suffers the usual beatdown.
  • Drunk on Milk: The scene at Oranguru's bar. Sure, Mallow's just drinking Pinap Juice, but she's sure acting like she's drowning her sorrows. Including, at one point, chugging an entire mug of the stuff.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Mallow does not think she gets the respect she deserves for all the tasks she does at her father's restaurant. At the end, her father patches things up simply by thanking her for her work at the restaurant, leading to a tearful reunion.
  • End-of-Episode Silliness: The episode ends with Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy having drinks at Oranguru's bar.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Oranguru is best known as the keeper of a jungle bar. And it started when it took care of Mallow's father several years before, leading to other humans coming by and helping build the bar it has now. Mallow's father refers to Oranguru as his "teacher".
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Mallow, when she finds herself at Oranguru's bar.
  • Immune to Slapstick: A Running Gag involves everyone in the cast tripping down the hill leading to Oranguru's bar. The remaining students do a group pratfall...except for Lana who does a perfect land on foot.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Mallow breaks down after her father finally shows his appreciation.
  • Innocently Insensitive: The pivot point of the story is Mallow's father being too caught up in the success of the restaurant to notice the pressure he's put on Mallow or to show much gratitude for it. When he realises how worked up she is, he quickly rushes to apologise and make clear he appreciates her.
  • Mundane Utility: Morelull are used as lamps at Oranguru's bar.
  • Strong as They Need to Be: In their previous face off, Steenee effortlessly beat the Team Rocket trio to a pulp after evolving. This time round, they kidnap her rather easily, and she needs assistance to land even a single hit on Meowth.
  • There's No Place Like Home: On top of quitting the restaurant, Mallow also runs away from home, prompting her father and classmates to go looking for her.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: Team Rocket, particularly Jessie, make all sorts of deranged taunts after they capture Mallow's Steenee. It doesn't end well for them.
  • Would Hit a Girl: A vengeful Meowth attempts a lunging Fury Swipes at Mallow herself. With Oranguru between them however, he doesn't get very far.
  • You Shall Not Evade Me: After he dodges a Doubleslap from Steenee, Oranguru uses Instruct to boost her so she can get a second hit in on Meowth.
