The end of a hero.

As Ash and Alain battle Lysandre, Team Rocket and Serena close in on Team Flare's lab outside Lumiose City to try and free Chespie. But at the Prism Tower, someone must make a sacrifice to break Team Flare's control over the Zygarde cores.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Amusing Injuries: In his Team Flare post-episode interruption in the Japanese version, Xerosic has his head bandaged because of falling down that Trap Door.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Steven and Metagross show up to help infiltrate Team Flare's base.
    • Malva and Houndoom join Ash and Alain in their fight against Lysandre.
  • Enemy Mine: Team Rocket finally unveil themselves to a dumbfounded Serena and offer to hold off Team Flare's forces while she and the others go to find Chespie.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Shutting down the Prism Tower's systems will wipe Clembot's flash memory. It is unavoidable since Clembot has to be connected in order to do it.
  • Hero Killer: Lysandre's Gyarados takes down two-thirds of Ash's team (Noivern, Hawlucha, Goodra, and Talonflame), before a combined attack by Pikachu, Greninja, and Alain's Charizard finally knocks it out.
  • High-Heel–Face Turn: Malva turns on Team Flare.
  • High-Voltage Death: A rare example where a heroic character makes use of Elemental Powers to invoke this. Clemont neutralizes the two Team Flare Grunts guarding the Prism Tower by ordering his Luxray to use Electric Terrain on them before they even have a chance to send out their Pokémon. It's quite shocking to see that in Pokémon: The Series.
  • "I Know You Are in There Somewhere" Fight: Bonnie tried to reach out to Squishy, but it attempted to attack her, with Blaziken Mask managing to shield her. However, through Bonnie's song for it, Squishy heard her voice and broke free from Team Flare's control.
  • Kinda Busy Here: Lysandre calls Xerosic for a sit-rep and finds that he's busy fighting Clemont.
  • Mourning a Dead Robot: Clemont openly weeps after the "death" of Clembot.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: Bonnie desperately sings to Squishy to shake it free of Team Flare's control.
  • The Needs of the Many: Clembot himself plays this card when telling Clemont to crash the system, knowing full well that his own memory will be wiped.
  • Never Say "Die": The idea that forcibly shutting down Lumiose Gym will wipe Clembot's memory brings allusions to the idea that Clembot will die. The word itself is never used in either version, though it is treated as if it did, with Clemont proceeding to a Heroic BSoD.
  • One-Man Army: Lysandre's Mega Gyarados.
  • Taking the Bullet: Noivern gets knocked out after shielding Pikachu from Mega Gyarados' Dragon Tail.
  • Trap Door: Xerosic falls down a trap door when Clembot finally regains control of the Prism Tower.
  • You Did the Right Thing: A pre-sacrifice example, as Clembot tells Clemont it is okay to go about shutting down the Prism Tower at his own cost.
