A wild Quilladin has taken romantic interest in Serena's Eevee. Jessie has also taken interest in Serena's Eevee to enhance her Showcase cred. Pancham and Chespin will need to set aside their differences to defend Eevee's honor.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Casanova Wannabe: Quilladin. At one point, Eevee uses his desire for her against him by using Double Team. Seeing tons of Eevee gets him too hot, and he faints.
- Continuity Nod: A potential romance between a Quilladin and an Eevee—and, by extension, a Flareon—is possible in the games, since both are in the Field Egg Group.note
- Expy: Quilladin is the Pokémon equivalent of Brock, constantly falling in love and being rejected.
- Foreshadowing: The Japanese episode title mentions Squishy being targeted. While Team Flare going after Squishy and Z2 will become the main plot of the XYZ arc, in this episode it gets caught by Team Rocket along with Eevee, Dedenne, and Bunnelby.
- Here We Go Again!: After being rejected by Eevee once and for all, Quilladin sees a Flareon and starts chasing her.
- Just Friends: Once the battle with Team Rocket is done, Eevee finally is able to reject Quilladin herself.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Pancham and Chespin first have to battle Quilladin, and then all three have to battle Team Rocket to save Eevee.
- Wingding Eyes: Quilladin is frequently seen with hearts for eyes in this episode.
