The day has come for Ash's Coumarine Gym battle and he is raring to go! Ramos proves to be a tough opponent thanks to his Grass-type Pokémon and their excellent use of status moves combined with strong offensive tactics, so Ash must figure out a way to work around this to win his next badge.
Tropes
- Berserk Button: Ash gets ticked off at Ramos for first wanting to have tea and then have Ash and his friends help garden as a Gym Leader is supposed to honor all challenges.
- Glass Cannon: Jumpluff and Weepinbell are fast and strong, but it only takes a couple of hits to down them.
- It Only Works Once: After Weepinbell's Poison Powder works on both Fletchinder and Hawlucha, Ash has Frogadier protect its face with Frubbles.
- Scissors Cuts Rock: Pretty much the whole battle after the first round ends up being this. Weepinbell beats both Fletchinder and Hawlucha, who have type-advantages, forcing Ash to rely on Frogadier, a Water-type, for the rest of the battle. Its speed and use of Aerial Ace certainly help.
- Status Effects: Weepinbell's Poison Powder manages to poison both Fletchinder and Hawlucha, which helps it defeat both of them.
- Worf Had the Flu: A single Aerial Ace from Frogadier takes down Weepinbell who had beat both Fletchinder and Hawlucha.
