Japanese Title: Leave it to Serena!? The Charging Sihorn Race!

Original Airdate: November 21, 2013

US Airdate: March 1, 2014

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Foreshadowing: The look on Clemont's face when Ash wants to challenge the Lumiose Gym...
  • Funny Background Event: Look at Pikachu's face when Ash admits to having forgotten about Serena.
  • Hint Dropping: Serena tries to get Ash to notice her with her racing outfit. You know the drill…
  • Oh, Crap!: When Ash remarks that he should try facing the Lumiose Gym Leader again, Clemont panics and hastily tells him that he should at least catch more Pokémon.
  • Rescue Romance: Ash and Serena's first meeting had him rescue her when she was lost, and now she has a crush on him.
  • Ship Tease: That childhood flashback isn't even trying to be subtle with the hints.
  • Stealth Pun: The fact that it was right when Serena gave Ash his handkerchief back that he was able to remember her, gave the term "Memento MacGuffin" a deeper, more literal meaning.
  • Through His Stomach: Serena must have found out about Ash's weakness for food during that summer camp, spending her first night as part of the gang baking for him. The gesture just flew way over Ash's head, of course.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: While she isn't actually angry, Serena pouted over Ash not remembering her, slightly putting him to shame.
