Japanese Title: Serena's First Capture!? Yancham VS Fokko!!

Original Airdate: October 16, 2014

US Airdate: December 6, 2014

A Pokemon Showcase is interrupted by a wild Pancham, who later steals Ash's hat and Clemont's glasses. But his mischief hides a secret desire to be a performer himself. Naturally, this also attracts the attention of Jessie. Can Serena protect Pancham from falling into the wrong hands, and make the first capture of her journey?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • The Artful Dodger: Although he wants to perform, Pancham makes it difficult to capture him in his battle with Fennekin. The fact that he's also a thief qualifies him for this.
  • Every Proper Lady Should Curtsy: Aria curtsies to the audience after her performance.
  • Go Through Me: Serena stops Pumpkaboo ambushing Pancham by tackling her. When Jessie decides to retaliate by having Pumpkaboo Leech Seed Serena, Pancham returns the favour.
  • The Heckler: Pancham starts his and Chespin's ceaseless rivalry by mocking his bungled dance performance.
  • I Shall Taunt You: As part of that heckling, Pancham did the Eyelid Pull Taunt and smacked his rear at Chespin.
  • It Was a Gift: After catching him, Serena gives Pancham a pair of sunglasses, which will become his trademark. Earlier, she tried to give him said sunglasses in exchange for Ash's hat and Clemont's glasses.
  • Oh, Crap!: Serena after Jessie commands Pumpkaboo to use Leech Seed on her.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: After Team Rocket ambush the twerps, Pancham rants at them for interrupting his battle with them. An outraged Team Rocket snap back at him for doing the same thing, starting a battle between them.
  • The Scrounger: Pancham keeps a cache of stolen props with which he can perform in private.
  • Unmanly Secret: Pancham is intrigued by performance, but is embarrassed of his interest.
