A little bonding for Iris, Axew, and Emolga
Bianca and Iris compete to capture an Emolga. Emolga takes a liking to Iris, but also has a few bad habits. While Ash, Cilan, and Bianca have their own troubles; Iris, Axew, and Emolga need to fight off some Swoobat that Emolga got on the wrong side of.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Distracted by the Sexy: Emolga uses Attract on the Swoobat herd. About a quarter of them are female, so it's not totally effective. But it does finally rouse Excadrill.
- Gender Reveal: Excadrill is revealed to be male when Emolga's Attract affects him. Unlike Ash when he was facing Snivy, Iris already knew this, judging by her comment immediately after.Iris: Of course it would work on you, Excadrill.
- Something Else Also Rises: When Emolga uses Attract on the herd of Swoobat, Excadrill shoots up vertically and uncovers himself to reveal it affected him.
- Stealth Hi/Bye: Bianca. She did not appear nor was mentioned in the previous episode. In the beginning of this episode, she is shown traveling with Ash and company without any explanation at all.
- Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Emolga's first scene shows her using this to steal apples from some Patrat.
