Pidove was just trying to be friendly.

Ash's egg hatches into a Scraggy, a scrappy Pokémon with a mean streak that likes to pick fights. So what will happen when it picks a fight with the wrong Pokémon?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • At Arm's Length: The one Pokémon who won't play Scraggy's game of "piss everyone off" is Snivy. She uses Vine Whip to hold him off.
  • The Ditz: Pidove is first to introduce herself to Scraggy. When it headbutts her, it takes a second before she startles and scrambles away.
  • Hard Head: Scraggy eventually does Headbutt a few too many times, and starts getting dazed.
  • Let Me at Him!: Pikachu and Tepig have to drag Oshawott off Scraggy when he gets a Headbutt. He still breaks free, only for him to get Headbutted again and lose his scalchop.
  • Lost in Translation: The English dub has Iris refer to Scraggy as Axew's "little brother". Scraggy will not officially be confirmed as male until BW025, when Emolga's Attract affects him.
  • Mad Scientist: Team Rocket's Dr. Zager, introduced in this episode but not yet the Dragon-in-Chief he'd become later on in the Unova saga.
  • Made of Iron: As ineffective as his attacks are initially, Scraggy can take a lot of punishment.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse/Goo-Goo-Godlike: Absolutely averted. Scraggy wants to pick a fight, but his attacks are little more than annoyances at best.
