Recap / Pokemon S 13 E 16 Dealing With A Fierce Double Ditto Drama

Go To

Ash and co. meet Narissa and her two Ditto. Narissa claims to be unbeatable, but this turns out to be completely untrue when not only does she reveal that she's only been a trainer for a month, but Ash easily beats her. She also turns out to be a sore loser, but Brock steps in and decides to help get rid of her bad attitude.

Tropes

  • Awesome Ego: Narissa/Rissa AKA The Rumbler. Her name in the dub even appears to be a play on "Narcissist."
  • Curbstomp Battle: Ash beats both of Rissa's Ditto with very little trouble.
  • Eyelid Pull Taunt: During their imitation showdown, Pikachu and the transformed Ditto do this.
  • Fangirl: It turns out that Rissa is one for Flint of the Elite Four, even dressing similar to him.
  • Hot-Blooded: As a Flint Fangirl, Rissa acts very appropriately Hot-Blooded.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Brock helps Rissa to improve herself as a trainer and also show her softer, kinder and more vulnerable side, and she even develops an attraction to Brock. But upon seeing Brock acting like a womanizing idiot, Rissa declares she's going to put her tough-as-nails act back on and storms off, one of the few characters of the day to leave the heroes on not so good terms.
  • Mirror Match: Apart from the official battles, when one of the Ditto disguises as Pikachu to mess with the group, Pikachu competes with it in an imitation match, with it able to match his impersonations perfectly.
  • Mythology Gag: Narissa's slang words are used in various points in the English version of the video games.
  • Paper Tiger: Narissa, prior to training with Brock and improving in battling.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Narissa goes by "the Rumbler" and claims to be unbeatable, despite only having been a trainer for a month and only having her two Ditto. As a rookie, she's not particularly skilled at battling yet either but she lies about being so skilled that battles seldom ever take place for her since her opponents are too terrified of her strength.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Gible uses Draco Meteor to determine which of two Piplup is actually a Ditto.
  • Spot the Imposter: One of Narissa's Ditto turns into Piplup and they start fighting. Ash, Dawn, and Brock can't tell which one is the real thing, but Gible spits out a Draco Meteor. The one that screams in terror is Dawn's Piplup.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: At one point Brock gets subdued by threenote  Croagunks' Poison Jabbing him all at once.
  • Totally Radical: Rissa, while acting like a tough delinquent, uses slang words such as "homies" and "newb".
