The twerps are bewildered when Pikachu and Piplup show evidence of both being afflicted by Attract. Is this the result of an experiment being conducted by Team Rocket?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Enemy Mine: Professor Kodama's Quagsire and Magnemite may hate each other's guts, but when the professor is in danger, they set their enmity aside to help him.
  • Idiot Ball: No one is particularly bright in this episode: Ash and Dawn have their usual intelligence (which means, not much), but Brock comes out with some ridiculous ideas for the problem, Nurse Joy doesn't seems able to think that the problem with Water and Electric types could have something to do with the nearby Professor who has two of them not getting along and the Professor himself doesn't understand the reason his machine isn't working on Magnemite and Quagsire is because they have a secondary type.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: The Attract experiments turn Pikachu and Piplup into this, as well as various other Pokémon in the vicinity. Unlike normal Attract, this is regardless of gender, which is why the twerps were dumbfounded by their behavior.
