Recap / Pokemon S 12 E 25 Pillars Of Friendship

Go To

Brandon responds to a disturbance at Snowpoint Temple, and Ash and his friends join him to investigate. Hunter J is back, and is bent on awakening the legendary Pokemon Regigigas in order to catch it for a new client. However, she underestimates Regigigas's power, sending it into a rage that threatens the nearby town...

Tropes:

  • Big "WHAT?!": Hunter J gives one when Regigigas takes control of the three Regis, and they blast her with a combination attack.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Regigigas gets the upper hand on Hunter J by using Confuse Ray on Brandon's Regis, resulting in them all attacking J and forcing her to retreat.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Hunter J gets in over her head when dealing with Regigigas, and things escalate out of control until her client becomes disturbed by all the commotion and cancels the deal.
  • Darker and Edgier: If the pillars protecting Regigigas really were the three Regis, then J destroying them counts as an on-screen triple murder. This is then topped when she petrifies Brandon and his Regis and leaves them petrified. If Regigigas hadn't used Hidden Power, they would likely not have been restored at all.
  • Disney Death: Hunter J petrifies Brandon and his three Regis and leaves them for dead, but Regigias restores them with Hidden Power when it calms down.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: J's client is disturbed by the amount of destruction Regigigas is causing, and cancels the deal before it can reach the town.
  • Lack of Empathy: J is only concerned with capturing Regigigas in order to sell it, showing no concern that an entire town might get wiped out in its rampage. She calls her client an idiot for canceling the deal out of concern for this.
  • Oh, Crap!: Hunter J when she realizes that Regigigas has influenced the three Regis to attack her.
  • Red Herring: When hearing that a "mysterious gang" is occupying the temple, Team Rocket notes that it sounds like something they would do, suggesting that Butch and Cassidy might be behind it. Team Galactic could be another likely suspect. It turns out to be Hunter J and her henchmen, who want Regigigas for her newest client.
  • Taking the Bullet: The three Regis and Brandon each do this in quick succession to protect Regigigas, being turned to stone by J's petrification gun.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Intended by Brock. When Brock was tied up with String Shot with Maria, Brock does his usual flirting with intention to draw out Croagunk automatically so that he can poison jab him AND the strings. While Dawn thought this was very inappropriate timing at first, Croagunk poison jabbing Brock and the strings allowed them to get out of the string shot webs.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Regigigas is completely berserk when J violently awakens it by subjecting it to both Hyper Beam and Flamethrower attacks.
