Recap / Pokemon S 10 E 38 One Big Happiny Family

Go To

Ash and co. are riding along Cycling Road when Brock's egg starts to glow, and it starts to rain, so they take shelter in a Pokémon Center that few people have been visiting since the bike path was built. The Nurse Joy there is morose over her dying practice and has lost all her confidence. She snaps back into action in time to help Brock when his egg hatches into Happiny, but is still plagued by self-doubt when Happiny is abducted by Team Rocket.

Tropes

  • Call-Back: Jessie pulls out the other half of the pendant that her nurse Blissey friend gave her and remembers her old friend and her nursing school days. Also, Dawn mentions how Pikachu destroyed her bike in DP episode 2, which Ash didn't know about until now.
  • Heroic BSoD: Nurse Joy is grief-stricken and has lost her confidence because nobody visits the Pokémon Center she works at anymore.
  • It Was a Gift: Soon after Happiny is born, Brock gives her an egg-shaped stone to carry in her pouch.
  • Maternity Crisis: A low-key one, but Brock's egg starts to hatch while the gang is riding along Cycling Road in the rain, and the only Nurse Joy around for miles is suffering from a Heroic BSoD and needs Brock's assistance to help the baby Pokémon be born.
  • Nice Girl: Dawn's delayed reaction to Pikachu destroying her bike solidifies her as this in comparison to Ash's previous female traveling companions; unlike Misty note  and May note , Dawn makes it clear that there are absolutely no hard feelings on her end for the incident (even saying it was Team Rocket's fault anyway).
  • Papa Wolf: It's safe to say that Brock was not happy when Team Rocket stole his Happiny vowing to get her back.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Happiny is a cute little baby Pokémon, and it's insanely strong.
